Chapter 8
System: [Mission failed.]
Edith blinked. She had finished the whole test and even got praised by Dan–failing didn’t make any sense.
System: [You used math formulas on chemistry and physics questions. That goes against the spirit of the exam. Please keep trying]
Edith didn’t know what to say. After spending ten years stuck in a hospital bed, the only thing she could still remember clearly was math.
With a sigh, she decided it was probably best not to waste her energy on test–based missions. She just wasn’t cut out for it.
You worked really hard,” Dan said after going through her test. “As long as you keep trying, you’ll get better. I believe in you.”
System: [Congrats! You’ve earned genuine encouragement from someone else. A qualified heiress must have strong knowledge reserves. Reward unlocked: Memory+1.]
Edith quietly looked at Dan. Somehow, he seemed so much more impressive now. Even when she failed a mission, just being around him earned her rewards.
She made up her mind–she was going to study hard and repay him for seeing her potential.
Dan collected her test and said calmly, “Let’s go. First, we’ll get your textbooks, then I’ll take you to your class.”
Edith followed him out.
Class One’s classroom was on the third floor, with wide windows and a clear view. From the hallway, one could even see straight into the assistant principal’s office.
“Hey look–Mr. Humphrey’s bringing a new girl over.”
etting a transfer student? She looks kinda cute.”
jouning Class One, her grades must be decent, right?”
A Glass One students murmured among themselves, Hallie appeared at the top of the stairs.
The moment she showed up, every boy’s eyes lit up.
Hallie was known as the most beautiful girl at Sunspire High. She was not only stunning but also gentle and kind–the dream girl for a lot of the boys there
Her friend, Noreen Reed, walked over with a simile. Hallie, did you change your hairstyle today?”
“All hot girls like their hair long and straight. Hallie is getting prettier every day.”
I swear, Hallie’s looks could crush like eighty percent of movie stars”
I’m getting the same hairstyle next time!
Despite all the compliments, Hallie had no interest in talking about her hair. She smiled politely and changed the subject. “What are you guys all standing around for?
A boy named James Holcomb pointed downstairs. “There’s a new girl‘

Hallie looked in the direction he pointed. The second she saw Edudes face, her expression went rold
She thought. Dad has really placed that bitch in Class One? Is he trying to run my life on purpose?
Hallie Buttered her long lashes and said. That’s Eduh She’s my sister
You mean you half–sister Noreen had heart of Eduth and instantly wrinkled her nose Tudor the grow up in some finde town? Having a bumpkin for a sister must really suck
“Don’t say that Hallie said softly ‘She’s been sich and live in a small towe
Noreen looked at her for a moment, then asked, “Hallie, your eyes are red, and your voice is kind of hoarse fut you cry all night? Your sister just came back, and you hid and cried did she do something to you?”
Hallie looked like she was trying to deny it but couldn’t. “Nano…”
“It has to be that, Noreen said firmly “Edith’s the daughter of a homewrecker and took everything that should’ve belonged to you She should’ve stayed in that little town forever. Now she has the nerve to show up at Sunspire High”
“Hallie is so kind and gentle. There’s no way she can fight back against that hillbilly girl. We have to protect Hallie
“Bastard children like her should’ve just stayed hidden. Let’s all ignore her!”
Some meddlesome students started shouting indignantly
Hallie smiled faintly. She’d spent three years building her image among these classmates. Just a few words from her and they’d always take her side.
She was going to make sure Edith was humiliated and ed out of Class One.
James frowned “This seems kind of wrong. She’s still our new classmate…”
I think so too.” Hallie said, eyes reddened. “Even if she is… illegitimate, she’s still my sister”
has the finished speaking, Edith stepped onto the third floor and heard it loud and clear. A mocking smile tugged at her
us life, the first time she met the Lovett family’s social circle, Hallie had spread the exact same rumor about her in front of a bunch of rich girls.
Bork then. Fadith had stumbled over her words, trying to explain she wasn’t some bastard child–but no one believed her.
Eventually, she realized that some things weren’t worth explaining The people who trusted her didn’t need her to prove anything, and the ones who didn’t would never believe her no matter what she said
“What are you all doing in the hallway? Dan frowned Class starts in three minutes. Get inside.”
TB go in with you. Hallie Edith said with a smile as she walked over to her.
Hallir nodded she was trying to figure out the best way to fake a fall so she could win everyone’s sympathy
But then Edith casually lifted her hand The nest second. Hallie felt a strange chill on her head At the same time, a wave of gasps spread around her
Something clicked. She quickly raised her hand to the top of her head–only to feel smooth, bare skin

Chapter 8
“Oh my God! What did I just see?”
“Hallie’s bald? My queen is ruined.”
“I never noticed how long her face is. Without hair, she’s not even that pretty.”
“Why doesn’t she have a single strand of hair?”
“She looks kind of scary like this.”
Hallie’s mind went blank. She looked up and saw Edith’s eyes, which were full of mockery.
“This is just a tiny punishment,” Edith whispered in her ear. “Next time, don’t talk behind my back.”
Hallie wanted to tear Edith apart. But with her bald head exposed, there was no way she could stand here another second. She couldn’t let herself become the school joke.
Her eyes filled with tears. Then she covered her face and ran.
