Chapter 80
In the Larson residence, a man in a pink nightgown was lying in the big bed.
Kane stood by the bed, his face expressionless, but he was in a state of emotional turmoil.
He thought, ‘Should I risk my life stripping Mr. Larson’s clothes off? If I try to change his clothes, and he wakes up halfway, he’ll probably kill me. But if i leave him like this, he’ll still kill me when he wakes up.‘
Just as Kane was struggling to think about what to do, the man on the bed slowly opened his eyes. His deep, dark eyes told Kane that Marcus’s primary personality was back.
He bent down and asked respectfully, “Mr. Larson, how are you feeling?”
Marcus sat up and twisted his neck out of habit. As he raised his hand to rub his brow, he caught sight of the pink sleeve.
He looked down and saw the pink nightgown decorated with floral patterns and bows.
His face changed at once.
Kane instantly went on high alert. He stammered, “Mr. Larson, th–this… This is… Edith’s…”
Marcus said in a cold voice, “Run the tub. I need a bath.”
Kane dashed to the bathroom and filled up the tub with water.
The sound of the water flowing finally made him feel a little relieved.
Standing by the bed, Marcus was about to rip the pink nightgown off, but he suddenly stopped when his fingers brushed against the soft fabric.
He thought, ‘Obviously, that girl had looked after “me” all night again.
‘I just don’t get why that “other me” is so obsessed with Edith.‘
When Kane came out of the bathroom, Marcus had already taken off the nightgown and was wrapped in a loose bathrobe.
Kane heaved a great sigh of relief.
He thought, ‘Yeah, this is the Mr. Larson I’m familiar with.‘
He asked respectfully, “Mr. Larson, what should I do with the nightgown?”
Marcus replied coolly, “Wash it.”
He stepped into the bathroom and shut the door.
Kane was dumbfounded.
He thought, ‘Wash it? Am I supposed to wash it and give it back to Edith?
‘Mr. Larson had already worn the nightgown, and he had stretched it out of shape. No matter how poor Edith is, she wouldn’t be short of this nightgown.”
But he didn’t dare go against Marcus. He took the nightgown downstairs and told the servants to wash it and iron it.
Marcus lay in the bath with his head underwater. As the water closed over his nose and mouth, the feeling of strangling washed over him. Only then did he feel his presence.
Every time the other personality took over, he felt like he was nothing but an empty body, and that the other guy was the real Marcus.

No one else could understand this sense of powerlessness.
He lifted his head out of the water, water streaming down his face. Under the bathroom light, the droplets sparkled, making his face look even a masterpiece crafted by God.
Suddenly, someone knocked on the bathroom door.
Marcus asked coolly, “What’s it?”
“Marcus, it’s me,” Larry’s father, Bernard, called from outside. “Did you relapse last night?”
Marcus answered, “Yes.”
“Then rest up at home today. Let the company stuff for later,” Bernard said.
Bernard stepped out of the room, put his phone to his ear, and said to the person on the other end, “He was just in a bad mood last night. It was just a joke. No need to take it seriously.”
“Thank you, Mr. Larson,” Vincent said, his voice trembling with excitement as he tried to keep his nerve.
He thought, ‘Since Mr. Larson said not to take what happened last night seriously, Hallie could stay at Sunspire High School!
Vincent had the call on speaker, and the principal of Sunspire High School, standing next to him, heard Bernard loud and clear.
Vincent continued, “Sir, Mr. Larson said it was just a joke last night. Why don’t we just leave it at that? Rest assured, sir. We will keep our promise to donate the library to Sunspire High School.”
Hallie said with a choke, “I promise I’ll never hang out with those delinquents. Please give me a chance. I’ll study hard and do my best to bring honor to Sunspire High School.”
“This is going to be really tough for the school,” said the principal, who was in a bind.
The principal thought, ‘All the seniors showed up last night, and everyone heard Hallie admit that she stole the piano. If the school lets this slide, how could we possibly teach students properly?
‘But Hallie had always been the top student in her class. It would be a real loss to let such a promising student go.‘
After thinking it over, the principal said, “How about this? If Hallie manages to get into the top 50 of the year in next week’s monthly exam, I’m willing to bend the rules and let her stay.”
Hallie’s eyes went wide.
She thought, ‘The elite class had fifty students, and they were always the top fifty of the year. No matter how hard I tried, I’m always fifty–first.‘
“Thank you so much, sir. Hallie is smart and hardworking. She’ll definitely make it into the top 50. Thank you for giving her this opportunity,” said Vincent, greatly relieved.
In Vincent’s mind, Hallie had always been the top student in her class, so getting into the top fifty would be very easy for her. He agreed without a second
thought.
Hallie didn’t want to admit that she couldn’t do it, so she replied sweetly, “I’ll study hard.”
Next door to the principal’s office, June was talking to the piano teacher, Kerrie Clark.
Sunspire High School had two spots in the competition, and Hallie had taken one. Now that she was about to be expelled, she could no longer represent Sunspire High School to compete in Bonrea.
June said calmly, “Hallie is excellent. Her piano skills have long surpassed the amateur level and can rival those of professional pianists. If she represents Sunspire High School in the competition, I’m sure she’ll bring home a trophy for us. This is our honor.”

Chapter 80
Kerrie started, “Professor Lovell, you’re Hallie’s aunt, right? That means you’re also Edith’s aunt. Actually, Edith has a better understanding of plan pieces…”
“Oh, really?” June cut her off. “Edith really has a knack for fooling people.”
June thought, ‘Back when Melinda was still alive, I asked her to teach Edith piano. At first, Melinda thought Edith had a knack for playing piano and taught her with all her effort.
‘But Edith, despite having talent, had no interest in piano at all. She often skipped lessons to have fun. After studying for years, she only earned a Level 3 certificate. Eventually, it all came to nothing.’
Kerrie continued, “Professor Lovett, if you have time, you might listen to Edith play. Her technique is a bit raw, but she conveys emotion beautifully.”
June shook her head. “If Sunspire High School doesn’t allow Hallie to enter the competition, I’ll have her compete as my student.”
But competing as her student would put her directly into the professional category. The competition would double, and winning a trophy would be much harder.
Kerrie was at a loss for words.
She thought, ‘I’m just a piano teacher at Sunspire High School with no real industry experience, while June was a professor at Bonrea University. I have no say in front of her.
‘June had already made things clear. If I keep clinging to my opinion, it’d just be picking a fight with her.‘
In the end, Kerrie had no choice but to go along with it.
