Revenge served in a black dress (Nora and Jace) novel Chapter 22

CH 22

Jace was just standing there staring at her now. His eyes had gone a little wide, at her calling him Alpha, and then he’d frowned at her insult to the pack’s Gamma, and she wondered if Matt had relayed those words she’d stated to Matt previously to Jace.

His eyes moved to the food spattered all over the floor and the broken china plate as well, and then he looked right at her, and she knew that he didn’t know what to make of her anymore. She wondered if he thought all

his plans for her were starting to fall through right that very minute.

She stared right back at him and watched him turn to leave the room, waited until he got to the door before stating I guess she was not punished for hurting me, your own Mate. Yet you want to punish me for just reacting to what I felt, what Rosa felt, and what it all set off into motion. That is good to know Jace

He turned and looked at her. Don’t you think you and Rosa destroying everything she owns is punishment

enough?

She raised an eyebrow, Did you punish her for trying to hit me then? Oh right, you again took her side on that.

Tve known Gloria for 85 years, and she’s been my Luna for 60 of them, and not once has she ever done

anything to harm a pack member. You incited her beast was all.

Oh, so it’s okay that her beast was incited to a rage and lashed out, but not okay for Rosa to be incited into a

rage and lash out. I see just where you’re loyal lay, Alpha. I’ll make sure to be mindful of that from now on,

she nodded. Punish me, go ahead. I don’t really care to be honest. Better yet, just reject me and take your

Luna as your Luna. Wouldn’t that solve all the issues for Gloria?

She watched Matt appear in the doorway and latch onto his Alpha and pull him away, and she snorted. It appeared Matt had just figured it all out. He couldn’t sense her out but understood what she was saying: that, yes, she knew Gloria was everything to Jace, and she was absolutely nothing at all.

Nora turned and looked at her laptop on the other bed and shook her head. She wasn’t allowed to get up and

go over there. It was only a few steps, but those stitches needed time to actually work. She was about to press the call bell when an omega came into the room with a bin and a mop to clean up the meal she’d

shoved onto the floor.

Sorry to be a bother, Could you please get me my laptop?she asked and pointed to it. I’m not allowed to

walk until the doctor gives me the all clear.

The omega nodded, Of course, Nora. She nodded and retrieved it for her.

Sorry about the mess, I was making a point to your Alpha.” She murmured as she opened the laptop.

It’s alright, I’ve been known to fight with my Mate too. Nothing is ever perfect, and Mate’s fight sometimes, a few days apart and an apology for the offended party, will resolve it she chuckled. 1 heard you bit him.She half whispered and turned her eyes to look at her.

I did.She nodded. Wolves, what can I say, we’re kind of bitey at the best of times, huh!Nora chuckled softly. It was true.

The omega burst out laughing and nodded That we are,she cleaned up and left with a smile for Nora

You’re going to be a bit of fun around here, I think. And then she was gone.

No, she wasn’t going to be, but she had nothing against that omega, so she wouldn’t treat her terribly. She could be nice to those that were nice to her. Though she noted everyone here in this hospital called her Nora, In any other pack she’d be addressed very differently. None of them bothered to how their heads or be formal with her, because that was not expected of them.

They did all give that respect and bow of the head to Gloria though, when she addressed them, Nora had seen it a million times. Nora was no different to any other pack member with a warrior’s bloodline inside this pack, so that was how she’d behave from now on. Just a warrior who was studying and nothing more.

She spent a solid week in that hospital bed and not once after that moment did Jace come and see her. It didn’t go unnoticed by the hospital staff, and she could hear them talking about it in hushed tones, and with every day that passed by the more they whispered. At first about why she was in here, what had happened, why wasn’t their Alpha here showing any concern? Then there was talk of the Luna suite, it was being gutted and remodeled, just like the Luna’s office was, and she caught a conversation about how much time Jace and Gloria were spending together.

She’d also heard Carlos tell his nurses to stop gossiping. It was none of their business and one nurse had actually muttered Nora’s wolf is lost or buried, do you think he’s cheating on Nora with Gloria? I think he is, because where is he right now and with who? What Alpha doesn’t see their injured Mate in the pack hospital,

and he doesn’t even care she’s not in the Luna Suite.

So, some did actually see it then, just didn’t say anything about it, probably couldn’t. They were likely to be reprimanded or punished by their own Alpha. She just sighed at hearing it, that shewolf was not wrong. Nora sat in that room in her bed and studied, chatted to her mum and dad, talked to her sister and played games

on her phone when there was nothing to do.

She emailed a few of her university oncampus café’s, food halls and bars, and book stores with her resume In the hope she could pick up a parttime job once she got there. She had a cover letter attached to explain when she would be arriving at the campus and what degree she was studying, that she would be living on

campus, and anything outside of her regular class schedule would be truly appreciated.

She could sort out tutoring jobs for any of the local school districts that needed it in math, physics,

chemistry, along with essay writing, and intext referencing for parenthetical, numerical or note citations for direct quoting or paraphrasing. To help them avoid plagiarism and get better marks on assignments, for

firstyear university students, that would help her to pick up a few extra dollars as well.

She would keep herself busy once she left this place and never have to think about it ever again. She was

going to leave it all behind her and move on with her life. She had final exams all next week and then the results would come out and a month later she was gone from this place, just six weeks, and her life would be changed for the better. She wasn’t going to be forced out by that b***h of a shewolf. No, she was going to

leave here on her terms.

She’d already made the decision on when, not this full moon, but the one after that, she would merrily walk into that ballroom to the mating ball he was going to hold with Gloria on his arm, as he always did. Step right up to him and reject him right in front of everyone, including all his allies, and if he didn’t like or accept it, he didn’t have to.

If he didn’t accept it, and she wouldn’t retract it well, then, when she left the pack, she was going to find a man and let him see how it feels, to get hit with the pains of betrayal every damned day and pay him back for

PH 22

months of pain if he wouldn’t accept it.

It would weaken him over time, and he might just lose his wolf and everything he held dear to him, he wouldn’t know where she was, and hunting one she wolf to accept her rejection when he knew nothing about her, wouldn’t be so easy for him. He’d never once asked what she was studying or where, because, in the grand scheme of things, he didn’t need to know. She was of no consequence for his plans here in the pack.

But that was the kicker for her. She knew he wasn’t going to accept her rejection, he needed that heir from her. It had been a week since she’d voiced that he could just reject her, and he hadn’t, didn’t want to because he wanted an heir from her. But really, after everything that had just happened, did he honestly think she was going to be in his bed ever again? He’d ruined their mate bond all on his own.

If he was a smart man, he’d never have verbalized anything out loud to Gloria, kept his hands to himself until after that heir was conceived and born, before showing his true colors. But not being allowed to touch the one you love was annoying for him, she supposed, Gloria had been his Luna for 60 years, he’d told her.

It was likely what Nora had thought, that Gloria actually couldn’t bare pups at all, and that was why he’d never marked and mated her, because he needed an heir to pass the pack on to, so they’d hatched this plan to use his Goddess Gifted Mate when she came along, and then just discard her when that heir was born.

A part of her was amused. Did he think she’d just give up a child to him? It wasn’t going to happen. She’d never leave any child of hers with that shewolf or with him, for that matter, he was not worthy of her

children.
