Nora

She walked downstairs to greet her parents, even before Jace mind linked her to say they were there, because her mother had called her and told her they were just pulling into the road that led to the pack, Shed stepped into the foyer and seen Jace come from his office. He smiled at her.

“Perfect timing. I was about to let you know your parents are here, just come through the gate.” He told her

and walked towards her.

“I’m aware, I was on the phone with my mother as they came to the pack road.” She nodded and headed outside to greet them. She was just wearing jeans and a blouse. Jace, however, was wearing a suit. His jacket was open, but he was she noticed presentable as the Alpha. Trying she thought to look like the Alpha

that he was supposed to be; but actually wasn’t.

She also noted that his Unit and their Mates were all walking this way as well, and they were all also dressed for a meet and greet. She saw his eyes move over her attire and she even heard the sigh come from him. She

knew why. She should be presentable like they all were, but she’d not let him take her shopping to buy her

new clothes, which he had tried to do yesterday and offered again this morning.

She knew it was so that her parents could see that he had bought her clothes fitting for her status as not

only his Mate but his Luna as well. He’d gone so far as to have Zelda mind–link her and ask her if she wanted

to come and look at clothes to fit out her wardrobe. To which she’d politely declined with a simple “Not today,

but thank you, Zelda. Perhaps after the Luna Ceremony,” she knew that she–wolf was going to report her

words back to Jace.

They were in fact the very words she’d stated to Jace himself. She’d thanked him but told him she couldn’t

really afford to go shopping. He’d frowned right down at her and stated, “You have received the Luna’s pack

card, I know, because I handed it to you myself. So, of course you can, it has unlimited funds on it.”

She’d smiled at him, because she had received it, though she’d not signed it, and it sat in the envelope he’d

given it to her in, though she’d looked at it, because she knew he expected her to. It was gold in colour and

stated L.N. Remmington.

She told him the honest truth of how she saw it: “I’m not the Luna, though am 1. So, until I am officially

announced as such for all to hear, I won’t be using it. My funds are very limited, Jace, I’ve pretty much exhausted all my own savings in the past five months.”

“Then allow me to take you shopping and purchase you clothing.” He’d offered right back.

“No, thank you. My wardrobe is fine, I don’t need anything. I have clothes for all seasons.”

“But not all occasions,” he’d murmured. “I’d like you to have some formal wear. Please allow me to do this for

you.”

“Perhaps after the Luna Ceremony,” she’d stated simply, and he’d let it go, had no choice but to do so. She wasn’t going to be budged on it. Even now she knew he was unhappy with her attire, he wanted her to be seen all dressed up as though he’d been a good loving Mate all this time. But she wasn’t going to do that just so he could save face. She didn’t care what anyone thought of him or this pack.

She hugged her mother, and her mother hugged her back and then put her at arm’s length and really locked her over. She knew that her mother was looking for bruising or wounds of some kind. She knew everting and Jace knew that as well.

“You’ve lost weight.” Her father stated as he came to stand before her and frowned. “Those jeans were fitted on you last time you wore them.” He tilted his head and then touched her forehead. “You didn’t have that scar either, how did you get that?” he muttered and then walked around her.

“She was in a car accident,” Jace stated as she heard him come down the stairs. “She has a few scars from that.”

“Why?” her father, Baxter, turned and looked at Jace. “Only those without wolves wouldn’t heal wounds!” his eyes moved back to hers and then his own wolf pushed forward and stared right at her. “Where is my daughter?” his wolf Edge stated in his gravelly voice, and then he pulled her up close to him and really looked at her, trying to sense out Rosa who was at this moment still buried inside her mind.

“There were some complications from…” Jace offered.

“I don’t want to hear from you,” Edge’s gravely voice stated, cutting Jace off. He didn’t want to talk to Jace at all. She now knew that her father also knew everything, as did his beast. This was a show she thought of hím, pretending not to know what was going on. “I want my child to tell me why she is… wolf–less, she wasn’t the last time I saw her. I ran with Rosa, every night inside my pack.”

“Perhaps a private conversation is required,” Jace stated, and she heard the edge to his voice. He didn’t want her to tell them why Rosa wasn’t with her, and she knew it. It wasn’t something they’d discussed, but he knew it was his fault and he also knew she blamed him for it.

She watched Edge recede and her father turn to Jace himself “Just what is going on inside this pack. Have you harmed my daughter, gone against the mating alliance and made her say nothing? Are you holding her here against her will?”

“I am not holding her against her will,” Jace stated. “Nora is here of her own free will.”

She put her hand on her father’s hand and his eyes moved to it, and then reached out and turned it over. What the fuck.” He snarled at seeing the scars on the inside of her hands. “You were un–marred when you came here, now you have many scars.” His eyes turned to Jace as he yanked her right behind him “you have harmed my daughter I see.”

“I did not cause those. There was an incident and Nora and Rosa got very angry and destroyed a d reinforced metal and Rosá didn’t heal her.”

“Right,” her father snapped. “And pray tell me what set that off, and is that why Rosa is no longer with her? Yes Jace, she thought, please explain that one to my father. “Again, let’s please go inside and talk privately “Oh, I’ll be discussing it with my daughter, and you, nor any of your unit, will be in the room… I’ll also be calling Alpha Clayton with regards to bringing that mating alliance with him. Nora was supposed to come to no harm inside this pack yet, she has many scars now.”

“No one inside this pack has ever physically harmed her, never laid a hand on her. I assure you of that,” Jace stated, and reached out to try and take her from her father, only to have her mother step in front of her.

“Perhaps Alpha Jace, my Mate and I could have a private word with our daughter. It does appear something has happened to her inside your pack, and she has never told us. Maybe she feels she can’t with you around.” “Nora may say whatever she wants, does say whatever she wants all the time.” He muttered when he realized moved she wasn’t going to step out from behind them and take his hand to stand beside him, “Fine,” his eyes to her. “Nora, you can show them to their suite for the duration of their visit.” He stepped back, and then turned and headed inside the packhouse.

She watched his unit all follow him, and said nothing. Her eyes, however, moved to Gloria, who was leaning on the end of the packhouse watching the interaction between all of them. She bowed her head ever so slightly to her and then turned to her parents and found herself enfolded in her father’s arms, and he just held onto and murmured “It will be alright.” She nodded against his chest.

She watched them get their overnight bags out and asked how Nita was, as they walked inside. She could see the Alpha’s office door standing open. “Your sister is having a nice time on her end–of–year trip,” her

mother smiled at her.

“How many went?” she asked.

“The whole class. You should have seen them, so very excited Luna Nelly gave them all $5000 to spend on whatever they liked. Surprised them all with those pack cards.” She chuckled. “They are in New York, and the Luna thought they should be allowed to splurge a little, do some shopping, just because.”

“A good Luna, she is,” her father stated. “They’re not even supposed to get pack cards until they’re 18. Your sister promised to buy you a Luna gift, seeing as she couldn’t be here, with some of that money.”

“She doesn’t need to,” Nora stated as she walked them up the stairs.

“Now where are we staying?” her mother asked.

“In the room next to mine.” She smiled at her. She also had a feeling Jace was in that office listening to every word that was said. He wasn’t going to like that she’d put them in the room next to hers, because that would show them they weren’t together at all, which they both knew, but he did not know that himself.
