CH 73
Jace
He had to hold his own temper with Nora’s father. He had no idea if the man knew or not; exactly what was going on between himself and his daughter. Though from the way his beast surfaced, he didn’t think so, and the last time they’d seen her was before everything had started to spiral out of control inside this pack
So she’d not had a mark on her. If that man insisted on knowing all the facts frorn his daughter, he was going to be one pissed–off wolf. He’d already stated he was going to call his Alpha and speak with him about the scars on Nora’s body. There was nothing he could do about it.
He was even responsible for the very first one that man had seen, the scar that was the result of him making her bow down to him when she’d officially left him. It might not have been there if the girl hadn’t had a death wish the next day, and taken on an armed gunman, something they did actually know about.
It was on the bloody news later that night, including footage of her getting hit by a car, though the footage of inside the bank; he’d had to have his tech department source. That was why they’d called him that day. They’d seen it on the news, only to find out she was in the hospital, and he didn’t know what had happened to her at the time.
Which he hadn’t because he’d been prowling around praying she would survive, as he realized just how badly he’d screwed everything up with his own Mate. Her mother had not wanted to talk to him about what happened after that. She already knew by then, everything that was going on was all he could guess.
He sat in his Alpha chair and leaned back in it. He’d tried to make it seem explainable. It didn’t really help that she wouldn’t step out from behind them and come to him, when he reached for her. It kind of gave the impression she didn’t want to, and he knew it. Her mother stepping up in front of Nora. He understood that was because of the knowledge she held.
“Breathe.” Matt told him. “She didn’t correct you.“.
“It doesn’t matter if she did or not. Her mother knows everything, and her father is about to find out, he’s going to call Clayton.”
“You have never laid a hand on her, no one inside this pack has,” Mark stated, “So it’s fine.”
“I have.” He sat up and looked out his office door, and he had technically “I’ve grabbed her at times and bruised her. That would count as her coming to harm, seeing as Rosa isn’t with her.”
He watched them come inside and raised his hand to his unit to stop them because he wanted to hear the conversation between the three of them. They couldn’t hold a mind–link she wasn’t of their pack anymore.
Her tone was happy and light, and she chuckled, as did her mother. That was good. It would show them that she was alright, but that comment about Luna Nelly just handing out pack cards with money on it, that made him close his eyes. He had a feeling her mother brought that up on purpose.
Then her father’s comment about her being a good Luna to give them a card. Oh, her father knew and had played it off as he didn’t in order for him to grate out angry, threatening words at Jace. Then that dig about her sister buying her a gift because she wasn’t here for the ceremony. Even Matt sighed at that one.
It wasn’t missed by his unit. She also put them in a room on the top floor, not something he woul

but she was the Luna or would be as of tomorrow night, and so he’d told her to allocate a cute for he parents and her former Alpha and Luna. He’d been trying to get her to do something that a beza d stared at him for a long moment, and then stated ‘alright, I’ll choose where they can stay #had mad happy, but now not so much.
He just knew Alpha Clayton and Luna Nelly were going to be up there where she was as well. Which means that they likely also knew everything too. If Nora hadn’t told them herself, then it was likely either his mother or father would have gone to him. They’d known of the mating alliance and so would of course be worried about their daughter.
He couldn’t even blame them. That was why mating alliances were attended. He’d signed it and, happily so
he had never even considered he’d harm her, or be disrespectful to her. He’d been happy to have a Goddess–Gifted and that had only changed when he’d gotten home and came face to face with Gloria.
He’d signed it in earnest, meant it at the time, and even thought he’d been abiding by it, in all the time he’d been mated to her. He’d still not found out the exact moment she’d first pulled away from him. What had made her? He’d only asked once, and she’d stared at him for only a moment and then just stood up and
walked away from him. Muttered ‘figure it out yourself.
It was still a full bone of contention between them. He didn’t know at all, just knew it was after that first full moon here, but before the second one, somewhere between the four and eight–week mark in their bond, when
she had turned away from him. He couldn’t put his finger on it. The camera system also didn’t go back that far, wiped everything after four weeks, so he couldn’t even find the moment and see it for himself, to figure it
out. Not the when, or the where, not even the time it happened.
A part of him wondered if Gloria knew the when and where; what had caused it. It was likely, but he couldn’t go anywhere near that she–wolf, that would only be seen as he missed her and wanted to be around her by Nora. Only if he hauled her out to the shaming post and punished Gloria would it be seen as anything else.
“What are you going to do about dinner?” Mark asked him. “We’re all supposed to have dinner in the private
dining room this evening, us and her parents?”
“I don’t know.” He shook his head. “I dare say it’s off the table right now, her father will be up there wanting to
look at her, see just how many scars she’s got.” He sighed and she had quite a few now.
“Both hands and feet, and her abdomen,” Mark stated.
“The abdomen is explainable from surgery,” he stated, “all the others.” He shook his head. He’d tried to play it
off but couldn’t when it came to her hands and feet, and he’d been honest about it. She’d torn apart a
steel–reinforced door with her bare hands. “I don’t know what she’s going to tell him.” And he didn’t.
“Clayton is going to want to see her medical files,” Matt murmured, “Because it will state all her injuries, when
and how she got them, how they were treated, how many times she was in the hospital and the duration of
the stays. Which will show him just when she lost her wolf.”
“Agreed.” Jace nodded because it was what he would do. “Go and get it, might as well not make the man wait for it, likely to just tick him off. I don’t need that.”
“No, you don’t. He could pull her from this pack against your will until you prove you’ll never do anything to her again.” Mark sighed.
“Only if she says she wants that,” Jace answered, “I don’t think she will. We were dancing and lau ballroom just last night, and I’ve listened and apologized to her. I’m giving her everything she want one kind

The dress and jewelry. She has them too, to show to her parents. She told me they would want to see s before the ceremony. That she wanted to show it to them. They are aware of why they are here, that I am doing right by her now. Just mad that I’d treated her wrongly in the first place, and what parent wouldn’t be
“I just have to stay calm, and not lose my temper is all. Take the humiliation and not so nice comments from them when they say something. I have no choice if I want to keep Nora here with me.”
“You know you could still have to take a full lashing from Alpha Clayton over what happened,” Mark told him
Jace’s eyes moved to his Beta now. He’d not actually thought about that, because Nora was accepting of him, they were coming back together. But it actually was completely possible, he now realized. He’d not been punished for anything he’d done, apologized but had not been punished and that mating alliance had rules.” Great, a lashing on the day I’m to proclaim my loyalty to her.”
“I’d be willing to bet she won’t stop it either.” John murmured from his seat on the couch. “A part of her has to want to see you suffer something in return for all she’s suffered, don’t you think?”
“Yes.” He nodded, and he knew she did want to hurt him. She’d tried to touch Matt with the intent of causing him pains of betrayal, only he’d not felt it because she wasn’t in the right frame of mind to touch anyone lovingly. But she’d tried, and then even after that she’d described Matt to him as handsome and kissable, wanting to use Matt to hurt him again.
Though as he thought about that, it had been right after he’d come out of Gloria’s room, and Matt was mated. So, unless she wanted herself to be seen as just like him, and or Gloria, he didn’t think she would actually do that.
It had been a carefully worded sentence. He now realized to make Matt back the hell away from her, because he’d been coming to help him. He knew her seeing him come out of Gloria’s room had made her think he was just spending time with Gloria, like he always did.
Matt had also done that, turned and walked away from her, kind of banged into the Alpha’s office even, because she was winning the battle against the Gamma. Luna versus Gamma, and the Luna was winning when the Gamma should be able to contain her at all times, get her to do what he wanted. Only Matt couldn’t, because none of them actually knew if she would do what she said in order to hurt him. Matt also thought she would.
Which would not only hurt him but Matt’s own Mate as well. It was not something he was willing to risk, even though they would all be able to explain it to his Mate, and she’d likely understand because of all that was going on between him and Nora. But then Jace would also be to blame for the pains of betrayal his own Gamma’s Mate had to suffer. Matt was never going to win, Nora had beaten him at his own game.
