Chapter 131 The Stranger with a Shadow
Talonox pressed his fingers to his temple again, the pain still throbbing
Becky was itching to go home, and something about the man gave her a deeply unpleasant feeling.
“I’m off the clock. Come back tomorrow.”
A sudden, splintering noise.
Becky jumped her eyes snapped to the shattered mess of her desk. The man had split it in two with a single strike.
Talonox glanced at her coolly, then sat down in the chair as if nothing had happened. “Start”

Becky realized she was dealing with someone dangerous. She couldn’t win this one. With no choice, she dropped her bag and sat down.
“Hand.”
Talonox extended his arm.
Becky took his pulse. After a moment, she looked up at him.
This man wasn’t just sick–he was seriously ill.
Talonox pressed his temple again, his voice low and strained. “It hurts. Bad. Fix it first.”
Becky snorted, “Hurting this much and still so cocky.”
He lifted his eyes and stared at her.
She was so young, and yet so…. unfazed. Most people would’ve been terrified.
Becky didn’t hesitate–she quickly performed acupuncture to relieve his pain.
The moment the last needle was placed, Talonox felt the migraine vanish like fog lifting from his brain. His vision sharpened. His whole body felt light, fresh, powerful.
He hadn’t felt this good in years.
For years, migraines had tormented him. He’d seen countless doctors, all useless. One had given him a pill that dulled the pain, but cach dose made the next attack worse–and come sooner.
He had extraordinary pain tolerance, yet the headaches had nearly broken him.
Now, with just a few needles, the pain was gone.
He looked at Becky in stunned amazement.
Tri–amazement.
He’d finally found someone who could actually treat him.
Becky
ow the smile forming on lus lips and felt a chill. Somehow, when he smiled, he seemed even more dangerous
She needed to get him out–fast

“Ten thousand’s for her broken table.”
Honestly, Becky’s desk was barely holding together before he broke it. She guessed it was worth maybe a hundred bucks.
Mr. John was such a cheapskate. She made him a ton of money, and he couldn’t even spring for a decent desk.
Well, thanks to this psycho, she could finally replace it.
As the scar–faced man pulled out a phone for payment, Becky noticed something strange.
He had a black phone already in hand–but he pulled a second one from inside his coat and used that instead.
Their eyes met briefly. His glare turned vicious, and she quickly looked away.
Talonox gave her one last, lingering glance before walking out.
Once they w were gone, Becky let out a long breath.
Ternifang
It was getting late. She looked at the ruined desk, decided she didn’t care, and locked up.
Mr. John had left early that day.
She locked the door and headed home.
Thirty thousand–after giving Mr. John his usual cut of six thousand, she still had twenty–four left.
Nice
Becky skipped like a happy little bird.
Her phone buzzed in her bag. Xavier–video call.
She hesitated, then answered.
Xavier appeared in a sharp suit, hair perfectly styled. That face of his was so handsome it made her blink.
He glanced at her surroundings and spoke first. “Not home yet?”
“Almost there.”
“Busy day”
“Not really. Had one last patient before closing. Delayed me a bit.”
“If you’re tired, order takeout. Don’t cook.”
“Mm
Her reply was half–heaned
Xavier didn’t seem to mind. “Weather’s getting colder Dress warmly when you go out”
Se naggy Becky thought. It’s not like I don’t know how to take care of myself
He wasn’t done “Tar asked Randall to start driving you to and from work He’s free anyway‘
“Noured
She didn’t even think before refuung
Xavier frowned slightly, about to speak, but Becky cut him off
“You send him. I still won’t get in the car

“That’s it. I’m hanging up.”
She ended the call just as she reached her building.
At the vegetable shop by the entrance, she grabbed a few things and headed upstairs.
Dinner was simple–Abigail had already made rice, and Becky just stir–fried two quick dishes.
After eating, she bathed James, did some infant massage, played with him a bit, and then got him to sleep.
Abigail had finished cleaning up, and Becky finally showered and went to bed.

In a dimly lit apartment..
Talonox burst out laughing and popped open a bottle of liquor.
Across from him, the scarred man stood silently.
“She’s amazing–that Ms. Quinn, Talonox said, his voice bright and uncharacteristically cheerful. “I feel reborn. Stronger than ever. You did well. You’ll be rewarded.”
