Chapter 203 Bite Marks and Bonus Points

After work, Sharon drove to pick up Becky. Once Becky got in, they headed to a restaurant they used to frequent–it wasn’t far.
Since Becky had plans with Sharon, Xavier was free for the evening. He invited Brendon out for a game of tennis.
As they were changing in the locker room, Brendon spotted the bite mark on Xavier’s shoulder.
“Whoa, whoa, whoa! What is that? Did I just see what I think I saw? You and Becky… you two did it?”
He looked stunned.
Brendon had no idea Xavier had made progress with Becky.
Xavier glanced at the deep bité mark on his shoulder.
Brendon blinked. “You two are really together now?”
Xavier replied, “More or less.”
“What do you mean, ‘more or less‘?”
Xavier didn’t answer.
Brendon didn’t press. If they’d slept together, then clearly they were together.
“You guys into that kind of intense play?”
Xavier ignored him and finished putting on his shirt.
Brendon grinned with excitement.
“Look at you. I thought you’d never get her. She barely gave you the time of day, and now you’ve even got the Shanks family in the picture.
Xavier thought of his situation with Becky. That woman wanted to sleep with him–but didn’t seem to want a future.
Brendon found it strange how Xavier had finally gotten her but still looked troubled.
He didn’t comment on it though, and he knew better than to pry.
At the restaurant, Sharon was sneakily trying to get Becky to spill details about sleeping with Xavier. Becky was speechless.
“If you’re that curious, why don’t you just go sleep with someone yourself?”
Sharon sighed. “Who? I don’t even have a boyfriend.”
“There’s someone right in front of you.”
“Who?”
“Brendon.”
Sharon choked on a chili pepper, her throat burning.
“Don’t joke like that!”
Becky gave her a teasing look. “Brendon’s not bad. He’s good–looking, rich, decent personality. And you’re around him all the time–take the chance. Sleep with him first.”
Sharon: “…”

She suddenly imagined herself and Brendon tangled up together.
The image was horrifying.
She snapped herself out of it immediately.
“No way! Absolutely not! Becky, quit messing around. That’s terrifying.”
Becky burst out laughing, gloating.
She was laughing at Brendon.
That guy used to look down on the original Becky–now look at him.
Becky had heard Brendon was going to the Yale house for dinner tomorrow, and her smile turned meaningful.
Tonight, she and Sharon ate to their hearts‘ content, their mouths red from all the spice.
They both loved this place.
The food was great, but more importantly, the restaurant offered free fruit–unlimited refills.
Becky’s favorite was their watermelon.
This time of year, watermelon was still pricey. But this restaurant served it non–stop. Truly a rare gem.
Other places didn’t even offer fruit at all.
They walked out of the restaurant holding their stomachs.
Becky spotted Xavier–his long legs wrapped in tailored dress pants, walking toward her. Brendon was with him.
Xavier stopped in front of her, grabbed her wrist, and looked into her eyes. “Get in the car.”
Becky waved goodbye to Sharon and followed him.
Sharon greeted Brendon. “Mr. Brendon,”
Brendon looked at her. “Did you drive?”
“I did.”
“Mind giving me a lift? I came with Xavier. He ditched me for a woman. I didn’t bring my car.”
Sharon answered cheerfully, “No problem. My car’s over there.”
Brendon followed her gaze
and saw the little white car she drove every day.
“You didn’t drink, did you?”

“Nope.”
“Good.”
Once they were in the car, Sharon asked, “Where do you live?”
Brendon gave her an address. Sharon didn’t recognize it, so she opened her GPS.
The ear was silent except for the soft, sweet voice of the navigation system.
It was Friday night. The weekend was coming. The streets were packed with people going out, and traffic was slow. Sharon had to drive carefully.
She felt the silence in the car was a bit too heavy. She ought to say something.
Oh–right. She could bring up tomorrow’s lunch.
“Mr. Brendon, do you know where my place is?”

Brendon shook his head. “No.”
Sharon smiled. “I’ll text you the address later.”
“No need. You can come pick me up.”
“Huh?”
Brendon said, “If I drive over, it’ll attract too much attention.”
“Oh, right. Good thinking. Sure, I’ll pick you up.”
Brendon nodded with satisfaction. “You’re getting more and more professional.”
Getting praise from the boss made Sharon feel like she could sprout wings and fly.
“Thank you!”
Brendon added that she was doing well–and there’d be a bonus at the end of the year.
She was determined to get it.
Last year, she was the only one in her department who didn’t get a bonus. Everyone else got tens of thousands. She’d been so envious.
Brendon turned toward the window, hiding a grin behind his fist.
Back in Xavier’s car, Becky became very aware of the food smell clinging to her clothes. She hadn’t noticed it outside, but now inside his car–with its clean, faintly sweet scent–it hit her.
She felt a little embarrassed.
“It’s fine,” Xavier said.
