Alicia raised her brows in mock surprise and looked at Connor. “Everyone on the outside says Mr. Edwards calls all the shots at Edwards Group, that your father retired to the countryside years ago. Connor fell silent for a moment, her words clearly echoing his own concerns. There was a hint of frustration in his eyes.

“If it were up to me, I’d never invest in Stephen—not just because of Vincent, but because any sensible risk analysis would shut it down immediately.” Connor gave a helpless shrug.

Obviously, this wasn’t a situation he wanted to be in.

Alicia watched him for a long moment, gauging him. She knew Connor wasn’t lying; if he were, Vincent would never keep him around.

“My father’s a real control freak,” Connor admitted, sighing. “Once he makes up his mind, there’s nothing I can do. I argued with him over this, but he wouldn’t hear it. I asked why he was so determined to back Stephen, but he refused to explain.” He shot Vincent an apologetic look. “I’m sorry this dragged you in.”

Vincent just waved it off. “They’re a bunch of amateurs.”

They thought they could claw their way back to the top, but in reality, none of them had the brains or backbone for it.

Alicia didn’t respond, quietly sipping her herbal tea.

If Connor was powerless, then the real decision-maker at Edwards Group was still his father.

“Stephen’s sudden move against Evercrest Group has Kenney preparing to strike back. If you don’t want to leave any loose ends, here’s my advice—finish him off while he’s down. Don’t give him a chance to recover.” Alicia’s words were a pointed warning to Vincent—don’t forget to strike at Stephen while he’s vulnerable.
