The heat radiating off her skin made his brows knit tight; in that instant, Marcus realized her condition was almost identical to Ruben’s.
Right then, Natalie’s phone began to ring nonstop. Jackson.
She jerked her arm free from Marcus‘ grip, her voice shaking. “Don’t touch me…”
She picked up the phone, ready to answer, but his hand came down over hers, pressing it firmly.
Their eyes locked; in hers, he saw raw, searing desire.
He had never seen her like this before. Natalie was usually cool and restrained–gentle but unyielding.
Now, though, her gaze was nothing but unbridled, overwhelming need.
The call disconnected, only for the phone to light up and ring again.
But his hand stayed there, unmoving, holding the screen down so she couldn’t pick up.
Natalie looked up at him, struggling to steady her voice. “Let go of me.”
“You plan to let him come up here and take care of it for you?”
His voice was cold, sharp enough to cut.
Her throat tightened as she swallowed hard. “We’re not divorced yet. He’s still my husband, at least in name. If I don’t call him, who else am I supposed to-”
His grip on her phone tightened, his knuckles whitening as the pressure built.
Marcus stared at her in silence, his breathing growing heavier, sharper.
The ringtone finally faded into silence.
Then, with a sudden, fluid motion, his hand shot up, fingers clamping around her jaw, forcing her chin upward until their eyes met again. Her gaze had grown hazy, her pupils dilated, her mind slipping further.
His voice was low, each word deliberate. “You’re about to get divorced. You haven’t been with him in years. If you give yourself to him now, do you really think you’ll walk away unscathed?”

Her voice trembled. “Then what else am I supposed to do? I can’t die. Lily can’t lose me…”
“You won’t die.” His voice deepened, rough and unyielding. “I won’t let you

die.”
She froze when she caught the unwavering certainty in his eyes; shock rippled through her.
But before she could finish, Marcus slid his hand behind her head, pulling her in and crushing his mouth against hers.
Natalie’s heart pounded wildly, so hard it felt like it might leap out of her chest.
The kiss dulled the sharpest edge of the heat clawing through her, but the relief only fed the hunger curling deep in her bones. More, I need more…
She clung to him like someone drowning, desperate for air, for something to hold on to- clutching the only lifeline within reach.
Marcus lifted her easily, setting her down on the edge of the sink.
His mouth moved from her lips to the smooth curve of her neck, his kisses fierce, urgent.
A sharp click broke the quiet as the zipper at her back slid open; pale skin spilled into view.
He glanced up at her flushed face, then lowered his head again.
At that moment, a knock sounded sharply at the door of the room next door. “Natalie, are you in there?”
Natalie froze, her heart leaping to her throat as the haze in her mind thinned. Jackson. He’s in the next room.
Then another voice followed. “Jackson, one of the guests might be using your bathroom. The door was locked from the inside. Maybe Ms. Foster went to another room–maybe even this one-”
“That’s my uncle’s room,” Jackson said sharply. “Why would she be in there?”
“With all these guests tonight, and your room’s bathroom out of order, it wouldn’t be she borrowed his bathroom, would it?”

Inside the bathroom, Natalie’s head felt like it was about to explode.
Marcus must have heard the commotion outside too, but if he had, he gave no sign of caring;
