“Maybe she thinks it’s not the right time to strike back yet,” Marcus said with a faint curl of his lips, his tone cool and even. “But if you’re planning to make a move on her, you might as well settle Natalie’s score while you’re at it.”
Ruben let out a low, humorless laugh. “Using me as your weapon? That’s pretty damn ruthless.”
“And what difference would it make,” Marcus countered smoothly, his elbow resting on the chair arm, his thumb pressed against his jaw, his mouth tinged with a hint of ice, “if I handled it myself?”
Ruben narrowed his eyes, studying him with a look that held more weight than words. “What, are you planning to get revenge for Ms. Foster?”
“I was,” Marcus admitted casually. “But she doesn’t want it.”
Ruben leaned back slightly, his gaze sharp, almost probing. “Marcus, I’ve been hearing that you and Ms. Foster have been spending a lot of time together lately. You even gave her a car. What’s going on there?”
Marcus lifted his dark, luminous eyes and fixed them on him, silent as stone.

“You don’t…” Ruben tilted his head, as if the realization hit him t once. “Don’t tell me you’re interested in her. She’s your nephew’s woman-”
“They’re getting divorced,” Marcus said, his voice low, measured. “You’ve known that for a while.”
“They’re getting divorced, yes,” Ruben replied, his brows arching, “but they’re still legally married. Until the papers are signed, they’re still husband and wife.”
“Mind your own business.”
Marcus didn’t spare him another glance. He pushed off the couch and strode toward the stairs without looking back.
Behind him, Ruben called out, voice tinged with amusement. “Marcus, if Jackson finds out, that kid will probably want to skin you alive.”
“Then we’ll see if he’s got the guts to try.”
Marcus‘ footsteps never faltered as he ascended the staircase; his voice, calm but sharper now, cut through the air.

Ruben watched his retreating figure, the corner of his mouth quirking up into a slow grin.
Marcus, who had poured himself into work for years without sparing even a glance at romance, now, when that steel heart finally bloomed, it was explosive.
If word of this ever got out… with Marcus‘ position and influence, it would shake the entire Brookvale business circle to its core.
The next morning, when Natalie arrived at the clinic, the rain was still coming down in a steady drizzle.
It wasn’t as heavy as yesterday’s storm, but it was enough to keep business slow; from morning until noon, they’d only seen two patients.
She sat behind her desk, head bent as she replied to Lucy’s messages, when a breaking headline popped up on her screen.
She froze, recognizing the name instantly, and tapped it open.
It was a scandal–one exposing Victoria’s infamous temper–blazing its way across every platform online.
Victoria had always maintained a flawless public image; nothing like this had ever surfaced before.
Someone’s moving against her. Natalie thought, eyes narrowing sugntly.
“Hello, miss, do you have an appoint-” Atlas, manning the front desk, stopped mid–sentence.
Even with the sunglasses and hat, he recognized her immediately. It wasn’t his first time seeing Rayne; there was no mistaking her.
Natalie heard the voice and looked up. When her gaze fell on the figure walking toward her, her expression cooled, shadows clouding her face.
She had just been reading the article–and now, here Victoria was, standing in her clinic.
“Well, what a surprise,” Natalie said evenly, leaning back in her chair, eyes locked on the woman. Her tone was calm, almost bored. “What brings you here today?”
“Was this your doing?”
