“I really do feel much better,” Gabriel said, motioning toward the door. “If there’s nothing else, you two should head home; I’d like to speak with Marcus alone.”
“Alright.”
Jackson led Victoria out and closed the door softly behind them.
Marcus pulled a chair closer and sat by the bed. “How are you feeling? Is it true you’re doing much better?”
Gabriel didn’t answer immediately. Instead, he offered a faint smile. “I wasn’t actually asleep just now–just resting lightly. I heard most of what was said outside the room. Thank you… for standing up for Natalie.”
“Why do you trust her so much? This isn’t the first time she’s performed meridian therapy on you, is it?”
Marcus‘ sharp gaze lingered on his father, his voice low and steady.
Gabriel had always been meticulous about his health; at a time like this, he wouldn’t have allowed anyone near him unless he trusted them completely.
Gabriel spoke slowly, his tone calm. “Natalie treated me years ago, too. That time, the situation was even more serious than today’s. And yet, she pulled me through using meridian therapy.”
Marcus‘ brows knit. “How did I not know about this?”
“Not just you–Jackson didn’t know either. It was an emergency; it all happened so fast. Natalie just happened to be passing by and saved me. If not for her, I wouldn’t be here.” Gabriel’s smile deepened. “I only told Jackson later. I suppose he never mentioned it to you.”
Back then, Marcus had been buried in overseas projects, working day and night; Gabriel hadn’t wanted to distract him. And once his condition stabilized, it seemed easier to keep it quiet.
“That girl has saved my life more than once,” Gabriel sighed. “It’s a shame Jackson can’t see what’s right in front of him. His wife is extraordinary, but he’d rather waste his time tangled up with an actress.”
Marcus, worried the conversation might agitate his father, quickly interrupted. “Enough. Didn’t you say you had something you wanted to discuss with me?”
Gabriel’s expression softened. “You’ve always been steadier than Jackson; more capable, too. If

that boy ever dares mistreat Natalic, as his uncle, you should keep an eye on things. There’s so much they don’t want me to know…”
A quiet laugh escaped Marcus–low and almost amused.
Gabriel frowned. “What are you laughing at?”
“Don’t worry,” Marcus said, his tone utterly serious. “Ms. Foster is far stronger than you realize. If it ever came to a showdown between her and my nephew… I wouldn’t be so sure he’d win.”
Gabriel muttered, “You say that as if you know her well.”
“Not well,” Marcus corrected. “But I’ve met enough people to recognize that she’s not ordinary.”
“In terms of skill,” Gabriel admitted, “she is exceptional.”
Marcus lifted his gaze, catching the pride shining in his father’s eyes; strangely, it left a heavy weight in his chest. Today has rewritten everything I thought I knew about her.
Everyone in the Collins family had always said she was meek, quiet; a woman whose world revolved around her husband and home.
But the truth… perhaps the truth was something else entirely.
Over the next two days, Natalie stayed busy with her work but still found time to check on Gabriel’s recovery.
Word spread quickly that after her meridian treatment, his condition had improved significantly.
Three days later, he was discharged from the hospital.
That same day, James delivered a file to the old Collins estate.
“Mr. Collins,” James began, “there’s not much unusual in Ms. Foster’s background. Her mother passed away young; her father remarried. She was raised by her grandfather, Mr. David, a renowned scholar. He passed away years ago. After that, Ms. Foster married into the Collins family”
“That’s it?”
Marcus‘ expression was flat, but the edge in his voice betrayed his dissatisfaction.
