Chapter 57 Fractures
The man’s hand began to slide upward.
Without hesitation, Natalie raised her palm and struck.
Jackson jerked aside, dodging her blow, and the hand at her waist fell away.
“Smack-”
Her palm landed against his neck instead of his cheek.
It was only his neck, but it stung all the same.
“Are you insane? You actually hit me?”
Jackson clutched the spot she’d struck, his eyes darkening with a terrifying coldness.
“Touch me again and it won’t stop at just a slap.” Natalie’s voice was low and steady. “I told you before–don’t lay a hand on me. You brought this on yourself.”
“When did you become like this? You used to be so gentle with me, never even raising your voice. Now you’re hitting me over and over!”
Three years in prison had long since burned away her love for him.
All that remained in her heart was resentment without end.
“I’m not going to repeat myself. Instead of asking why I’ve changed, you’d do better to think about everything you’ve done.”
“You’ve found someone else, haven’t you?”
Jackson’s deep voice brushed her ear.
“The one with someone else is you.” Natalie’s words were sharp. “You’ve clung to your first love all these years. Don’t insult me by saying you were just friends.”
His face hardened, dark as stone.
When he didn’t respond, she pressed on. “Have your assistant drop me off at the foot of the hill.”
“You can’t even stand being with me for a moment?”

“That’s right.”
Her reply was blunt and immediate, without the slightest hesitation.
Jackson was left speechless, his anger choking him.
What had she gone through in prison?
How had she come out like this?
Natalic got out of the car at the roadside, ready to hail a cab.
The scene was already under another’s watchful eye.
Through the windshield, James saw Natalie step out of Jackson’s car.

When the black Cayenne pulled away, leaving her on the roadside, he asked quietly from the driver’s seat, “Mr. Collins, Ms. Foster just got out of Jackson’s car. Should we go over?”
Marcus’s eyes darkened. He lowered his gaze to his watch.
Before he could answer, Natalie had already slipped into a waiting taxi. The cab pulled off and disappeared from sight.
The corners of Marcus’s lips tightened faintly.
James, seeing her leave, said nothing further and pressed down on the accelerator.
“That Harley I asked you to contact–have you reached her yet?”
Marcus lifted his eyes toward the driver’s seat.
James met his gaze in the mirror and answered respectfully. “She seems to have had her phone off this whole time. I haven’t been able to get through. I meant to report it two days ago, things got busy and I forgot.”
but
Marcus’s brows drew together. “Her phone’s been off the whole time?”
“Yes,” James replied carefully. “I’ll try calling again later today.”
“Mm.”
Marcus gave a curt reply and said no more.
When Natalie got home, Lucy was already having dinner with Lily.
