“Sorry.” Lucy instinctively reached out and patted Natalie’s back. “Slip of the tongue, slip of the tongue…”

Natalie quietly slid the diced radish into the plate without saying a word.

“But really, why hasn’t that bastard signed the papers yet? He’s dragging this out slower than squeezing toothpaste.”

“He keeps using Grandpa’s health as leverage. And to be fair, it’s true–Grandpa has always opposed our divorce.”

Lucy grew agitated. “Make him sign first! Grandpa’s condition is nothing compared to this.”

“Alright.” Natalie gave a small nod. “I’ll go to him tomorrow.”

“That’s more like it.” Lucy grinned and gave her a thumbs–up. “Our Natalie never wastes time.”

Natalie let out a low laugh but didn’t reply.

The next day was a workday. Natalie assumed Jackson would be at Collins Group, so she planned to confront him about the divorce in person.

But just as she reached his office, through the half–open door, she saw Victoria sitting on his lap.

Her arms circled his neck as she spoke in a coy, playful tone. “Jackson, there’s a banquet tomorrow. Will you come with me?”

Natalie was straining to hear his response when a voice behind her made her stiffen. “Ms. Foster, why didn’t you let me know you were coming?”

She turned sharply to see White standing there, though she hadn’t heard him approach.

Naturally, the two inside had also heard.

Victoria slipped off Jackson’s lap, her voice dark. “White, who’s outside?”

“Sir, it’s Ms. Foster. Do you want to-”

Before he could finish, Natalie pushed the door open

Jackson looked up to see her walking in with calm composure. She sat on the sofa without hesitation.

“Ms. Foster, what are you doing here so suddenly?” Victoria’s voice carried sharp displeasure. “This is Jackson’s workplace. Don’t you think it’s inappropriate to barge in?”

“And yet here you are,” Natalie shot back coldly. “If his lawful wife isn’t allowed here, why would you be?”

“Ms. Foster, what do you mean by that? Who are you calling illegitimate?”

“I didn’t name anyone. But if Ms. Hayes insists on fitting herself into that description, I won’t stop you.”

“Natalie, enough.” Jackson stood quickly and strode toward her. “What exactly are you here for?”

“Send her out. I came to speak to alone.”

Her tone was frigid, her gaze

indifferent.

Jackson’s expression darkened. “Victoria isn’t an outsider. What can’t she hear?”

“She isn’t your wife,” Natalie said icily. “I am. If I want to discuss private matters with you, she has no place here. Unless you’d prefer she keep sneaking around–quicker she leaves, the less you’ll have to cover your tracks.”

Jackson’s face sank, his expression thunderous.

Victoria seethed with anger but couldn’t openly argue with Jackson watching.

She tugged his sleeve, her voice sugary–sweet. “Jackson, in that case, let’s talk later by phone. I’ll go for now.”

“Alright.”

His reply was soft, his gaze full of tenderness.

Natalie caught it and felt something inside her break.

Never, in all their years–even in their most intimate moments–had he ever looked at her with such gentleness.
