“You’ve been awfully close with my uncle lately. I even heard he went to Oakridge Estates yesterday. Since when are you two so familiar?”
Jackson ignored the question, changing the subject instead.
Natalie’s brows pinched. Of course–he had people tailing her. Otherwise, how would he know Marcus had visited?
“I’m talking about divorce,” she said coldly. “Why drag your uncle into this?”
Jackson suddenly rose, circling the tea table to her side. He braced his hands on the back of the sofa, one knee sinking into the cushion, trapping her between his arms.
Natalie frowned. “What are you doing, getting so close all of a sudden?”
His voice dropped, rough with accusation. “I heard you two were even in each other’s arms.”
Her expression darkened. He had seen that too.
“You really sent people to follow me?”
and
“Answer me! Why are you my uncle so close?”
He seized her chin, forcing her to lift her gaze.
“I nearly slipped on the steps. Mr. Collins caught me. That’s all. And in your version, it turns into us embracing?” Natalie slapped his hand away, her lips curving in a cold sneer. “Tell your people to look more carefully next time. I don’t care what they say to you, but if those words ever reach your uncle’s ears… the consequences won’t be so amusing.”
Jackson’s lashes trembled. That much was true. His uncle hated being slandered.
Natalie rose from her seat. Jackson straightened too, looming in front of her.
“If you
won’t sign, then we’ll drag this out. But as of today, in my heart, we are divorced. From now on, our lives don’t intersect. Remove the people you’ve set to watch me.”
Her voice was low and cutting, her gaze sharp as ice.
She turned to leave, but Jackson yanked her wrist back. “If I find you’d better watch yourself.”

Natalie’s heart gave a startled lurch.
:
She had never thought of it that way. But his words… they sparked something.
If she needed protection, Marcus would be the best shield.
Jackson had broken his vows first. Why shouldn’t she?

“I’m already divorcing you. Why meddle in what I do? I’m no longer your wife. Marcus, to me, is just a man.”
Just a man.
The phrase ignited Jackson’s fury, his eyes burning crimson.
“Natalie, do you even hear yourself? That’s my uncle!”
“He’s your uncle. Not mine.”
She tore free, her smile cool and mocking.
For the first time, Jackson saw a kind of allure in her that unsettled him.
He stared after her retreating back. “When did you become so shameless?”
The word struck her feet still.
Never had Jackson used such a word on her.
“Say whatever you like.”
Her lips curved in scorn before she strode away.
Outside Collins Group, Natalie lingered at the entrance for a long while, lost in thought.
At last, she pulled out her phone and typed a message.
“Mr. Collins, do you have time tonight?”
