Marcus cut James off before he could finish. “Postpone it to tomorrow.”

“But sir, you already agreed a few days ago.” James stepped closer, puzzled. “Are you going back to the old house tonight to have dinner with Mr. Gabriel?”
“Am I only allowed to eat with him?”
“Of course not, it’s just… usually when you turn down a social engagement, it’s because of him.” James watched as Marcus kept typing on his phone, curiosity bubbling. “Mr. Collins, are you… in love?”
Marcus’s lashes twitched slightly. He lifted his eyes. “What makes you think that?”
“Your reaction. It looks a lot like…” James gestured toward the phone in Marcus’s hand.
Marcus shot him a cool glance, then finished typing out a reply.
Pick the place and send me the address.
Sliding the phone into his pocket, his eyes darkened with steel. “If you’ve got time to gossip, use it to find Harley. She’s been unreachable for days. What’s going on with her?”
“Sir, there’s really nothing I can do. I can’t exactly hire a hacker to trace her phone.”
“I don’t care how you do it. Find her, and fast.”
“Yes, sir.”
Marcus strode off, leaving James clutching his report, his head spinning. Just who on earth was this Harley? So mysterious, always vanishing for days–how did she even keep business going like that?
That evening, when Natalie went to pick Lily up from school, she crossed paths with Victoria and Aiden at the gate.
Aiden’s sharp eyes spotted them instantly. When he saw Natalie holding Lily’s hand, a rush of jealousy clouded his face.
“Mom!”

Natalie froze, turning at the sound of his voice. Lily stiffened at her side, clutching her hand tighter under Aiden’s gaze.
“Why are you the one picking her up again? Why isn’t Uncle doing it?”
Aiden’s tone was sour, his eyes locked on Lily with disapproval.
When Natalie didn’t answer, Lily whispered carefully, “Godfather didn’t have time…”
“If he doesn’t have time, does that mean my mom has to pick you up? She hardly ever comes to get me, but she’s always here for you!”
Flustered, Lily ducked behind Natalie, hiding from his glare.
Natalie’s face darkened. “Aiden, she scares easily. Speak to her more gently next time.”
“Ms. Foster,” Victoria cut in smoothly, “Lily is just your friend’s child, and only your husband’s uncle’s goddaughter. For you to keep picking her up and even living together–it isn’t proper. People are already talking.”
“This is our business. It has nothing to do with you.”
“It may not directly concern me, but you ignore your own son while caring for your uncle–in- law’s godchild. If word spreads, don’t you fear the criticism?”
Natalie’s voice was glacial. “You’re the one rushing to pick up my son every day. That leaves me free to look after someone else’s child.”
Victoria faltered, her brows knitting.
“Mom, when you weren’t here these past three years, it was Dad and Ms. Victoria who came for me. She did so much in your place. You should thank her, not blame her.”
Aiden’s defense of Victoria was sharp, and Natalie’s chest tightened with a familiar bitterness.
Three years ago, in court, she had stood against this very woman. Now her own son was echoing that same tone.
A white–eyed wolf–that was what she had carried ten months to bring into the world.
“I’m divorcing your father. Your Ms. Victoria will take her place soon enough. Let her get used to the role of stepmother early. Then we’ll see how easy she finds it.”
Victoria’s face stiffened. With Aiden beside her, she couldn’t bite back.
