Natalie froze when she realized the number belonged to the secondary card Marcus had.

So, he still hadn’t given up trying to reach her. James‘ words suddenly echoed in her mind- that Marcus had shattered a particularly important piece of jade. Was that piece really that important to him? Was it a gift from the woman he liked?

“What’s wrong?” Lucy, noticing her reaction, tilted her head curiously. “Did something happen?”

Pulled from her thoughts, Natalie lifted her gaze. “Nothing. Marcus somehow got hold of secondary number. He says there’s a piece of jade he wants repaired.”

“Then why don’t you just fix it for him?”

As Lucy spoke, the ringtone cut off abruptly.

Natalie looked up, then shook her head with a quiet sigh. “I don’t want him knowing all of my identities yet…”

“Balancing so many roles can’t be easy.” Lucy gave a faint smile. “But when are you planning to take his order? Or… are you not planning to take it at all?”

“We’ll see.”

Her voice was light as she headed for the stairs.

“What do you mean, we’ll see?” Lucy laughed. “If Marcus heard that, he’d probably lose it. He’s reached out so many times; that means whatever he wants fixed is important.”

Natalie stopped mid–step and glanced back at her. “It probably is important… maybe a gift from the woman he likes.”

“The woman he likes?” Lucy followed her up the stairs, surprised. “Lily’s godfather has someone he likes?”

“Yeah.” Natalie’s voice softened as she continued climbing. “He told me himself… and she’s married.”

“She’s married?” Lucy blinked, startled. “That’s… intense.”

Natalie’s mind wouldn’t stop replaying the kiss they had shared the night before, leaving her thoughts tangled and restless.

“Maybe it’s someone he liked in the past, and then she married someone else,” Lucy mused, her voice edged with curiosity. “But that doesn’t make sense. A guy like Marcus–with his looks, his build, and that career–he’s the kind of man who could have anyone he wants. There’s no way he couldn’t win her over.”

Natalie halted again, her hand already wrapped around her bedroom doorknob.

After a pause, she turned her head slightly, eyes narrowing at Lucy. “Since when did you get as nosy as Atlas?”

“I’m not being nosy,” Lucy protested with a shrug. “I just think it’s strange. With Marcus‘ status, forget a married woman–he could marry an eighteen–year–old and no one would even bat an eye.”

“If you’re that curious,” Natalie said evenly, her expression darkening just a shade, “why don’t you just ask him yourself?”

“Why would I? I’m not interested in him,” Lucy muttered, frowning. “But seriously—why do you sound so annoyed when I bring it up?”

“I’m not annoyed.” Natalie forced her tone softer, quieter. “I’m just… tired. Don’t take it personally.”

Thinking back, she knew her tone had lost its usual calm, replaced with an edge she hadn’t intended.

“It’s fine. Go take a shower and get some rest.”

“Okay.”

Natalie nodded and slipped into her room.

A new message notification popped up on her screen–sent to the secondary number. Swiping the screen open with her thumb, Natalie read the words, her brows knitting tighter.

“Miss, sorry to bother you. I’ve tried calling you several times, but you never picked up, so I had no choice but to reach out like this. I have a jade necklace that’s badly damaged. It’s very important and needs urgent repair. Name your price, just please fix it as soon as possible.”

Natalie stared at the message, her mind growing more restless.

Things at the clinic were already a mess; on top of that, she had taken on a new order that afternoon. There was no way she could take another one so soon–her schedule was completely packed.
