Chapter 212 Always Protected Her
Did he get a concussion or something–because what’s with the sudden change of heart?

Gianna just froze. The shock hit her so hard that she forgot to keep pretending. Disbelief was written all over her face.
She never imagined that Marcelo, who had always spoiled her, would turn around and shove her straight into the fire like that.
Just yesterday, their parents and Miguel had told him to play it down in public–keep things vague and throw out a halfhearted apology.
But now, before she even got a word in, Marcelo had gone and said everything outright.
Gianna felt both humiliated and furious. She’d counted on him to smooth things over first so she wouldn’t have to be the one to start.
There was no way she’d humble herself like that–her pride wouldn’t allow it.
If he’d just said something soft and polite, she could’ve followed with a few harmless lines and gotten through the apology without losing face.
But instead, he had sold her out!
“Ms. Gianna, is what your brother said true? Are you actually tone–deaf?”
“If you can’t sing, why chase a singing career? You’re a Nygard, and you have all the resources you could ever want. You could’ve chosen any other career.”
“Your movies tanked, and your shows aren’t getting views–are you thinking about quitting the industry?”
The reporters were ruthless. They already knew about the feud between her and Amelia, and with Marcelo refusing to shield her, they went all in.
Question after question came flying at Gianna, leaving her completely exposed.
Her fingers dug into the hem of her dress so hard that her nails nearly broke skin, but she forced a trembling smile and said, “Box office numbers and ratings are temporary. I believe they’ll get better.”
The reporters pounced immediately. “Ms. Gianna, what do you mean by ‘temporary‘? Why are you so sure things will improve?”
Flashes went off as they waited for her to crack.

Cold sweat broke across her forehead, and she cursed them silently.
Trying to keep her composure, she gave a fake little laugh and said, “It’s complicated. Let’s just say time will tell.”
But they weren’t backing down. “Ms. Gianna, the public judges by what they see now, not what might happen later.”
“With so many failures, maybe it’s time to ask yourself if this business is really for you.”
Gianna’s smile finally faltered. She felt cornered, like an animal trapped with nowhere to go.
Her eyes darted toward Marcelo, silently begging him to step in.
She’d been coddled her whole life as the Nygards‘ princess–she’d never been grilled like this before.
If her acting skills were sharper, she might’ve already snapped and lashed out at them all.
[Tsk, see? I told you Gianna’s no saint. She stole Amelia’s fiancé and got someone to lip–sync for her.]
[Poor Selena—she could’ve been a star if Gianna hadn’t sidelined her!]
[Kick Gianna out of the industry already. Nygard Group’s done with her, and half her fans have unfollowed.]
The internet exploded with insults and mockery, and the Nygards watching from home felt sick.
“Mom, say something to Marcelo! Didn’t we tell him to protect Gianna? Look at what he’s doing to her!”
Knowing today was her public apology press conference, Maxwell, Miguel, and Emery had been glued to the live broadcast.
Watching Marcelo completely ignore their advice made Maxwell furious–he wanted to storm down there and confront him in person.
“Maybe the board’s been pressuring him too much, and he said that out of spite,” Miguel muttered, frowning, “but that’s no excuse. She’s about to cry.”
