Eliza deliberately turned her head away.

Even back at Nolan’s own home, they had always stayed in completely separate rooms. This
was the first time they were in two rooms connected by a door.
Nolan’s gaze was full of warmth. “Rest well today. If anything happens, call me.”
“…Alright.”
She nodded.
Soon, they each returned to their rooms.
By the next morning, Eliza woke to the sound of activity downstairs. The moment she got up, a maid at the door rolled in a cart with toiletries, ready to assist her.
Even in the Sue family, no one had ever fussed over her like this.
Nolan, on the other hand, disliked having strangers near. In the adjoining room, he sent all the servants away and washed up himself.
“What’s going on downstairs?” Eliza asked, having clearly heard the noise earlier.
“Miss Vivian has moved in. According to custom, members of the Cullinan family who are engaged must live together before the engagement ceremony.”
“Why live together?”
Eliza couldn’t understand. She’d only ever heard of couples avoiding contact before marriage – never of them being required to stay under one roof beforehand.
“This is so the future daughter–in–law can get used to the family’s lifestyle, etiquette, and rules,” the maid explained.
Hearing that, Eliza suddenly felt uneasy. It sounded like the old imperial court’s rules for a bride–to–be before entering the palace.
“Before Madam Cullinan married in, she had to learn the rules as well,” the maid added.
“You have a lot of rules here?”
–
“Ours is a hundred–year–old family of course there are many. But as a guest, Ms. Eliza, you aren’t bound by them.”

When the maid finished helping her wash up, she began to help her dress as well. Uncomfortable, Eliza dismissed her and insisted on doing it herself.

Only after the servants left did she feel she could breathe again. This house really was stifling.

and saw Vivian’s maids By nine in the morning, she and Nolan came downstairs together unpacking her luggage. Vivian wore an elegant white dress, looking like a sparkling princess.
When she spotted them, her innocent eyes met theirs, and she gave a small, polite nod in greeting.
“She really does seem nothing like Wendy,” Eliza thought.
Where Wendy’s gaze was sharp and venomous, Vivian looked like an angel
pure and harmless. Even as a woman, Eliza couldn’t help but feel moved. Such a beautiful girl, wasted as Wendy’s pawn.
Of course, she knew looks could be deceiving, but it was hard to imagine someone like Vivian harboring schemes.
“Sir,” a servant greeted Cramer, who had just returned from his morning exercise.
He was in a crisp white T–shirt and a baseball cap, exuding a refined, masculine charm.
His gaze landed briefly on Vivian – a glance so fleeting it was almost dismissive – and he didn’t even offer her a smile.
Vivian seemed prepared for this, maintaining her polite smile despite the hint of loss in her
eyes.
“Sir, Ms. Eliza and Mr. Hayes are up,” the servant said.
Cramer seemed far more interested in them. When he looked up, his expression was polite and welcoming.
“Please, join me for breakfast,” he said.
At his words, the servants guided them down. Soon, others came pushing a cart laden with breakfast, complete with a printed menu.
When Eliza saw it, she thought she must be mistaken.
This really was no different from living like royalty.
Cramer, long used to such a life, told her, “No need to be reserved, Ms. Eliza. I’m sure Mr. Hayes is even more familiar with this sort of thing, though he’s always been low–key. Our family simply observes tradition more strictly.”

Eliza glanced at Nolan. Compared side by side, he truly was modest.
Who even needs a menu just to eat breakfast at home?
