It had been a while since Soren had taken the initiative to contact Eliza, so the sudden call felt strange. His voice was unusually serious. “I know you and Nolan went abroad together. Are you investigating Wendy?”

Eliza was caught off guard.

She hadn’t expected Soren to know their purpose for coming abroad. They hadn’t told anyone, and the only person aware of their real goal was Halbert–who didn’t even know Soren, so there was no way he could have told him.

“Who told you that?” she asked.

“I figured it out myself. Don’t think Nolan’s the only one in Westbrook with connections.”

But this call wasn’t just to show he’d figured it out. Soren had something important to confirm. “Some of my artists have been going overseas lately. I did some digging and found that a new entertainment company was recently registered abroad. Look it up yourself.”

“What’s it called?”

“Wendigo Corp.”

The name instantly made Eliza think of Wendy. Could it be that Wendy had opened a new entertainment company overseas?

She quickly searched for Wendigo Corp online and saw that it had been registered just a month

ago.

The legal representative was a Chinese entrepreneur–not Wendy–but one easy enough to find online. That reminded Eliza of something Cramer had said earlier: Wendy had many admirers abroad, from nouveau riche tycoons to established businessmen, all willing to throw away their fortunes for her.

Being the legal representative of a company wasn’t exactly a safe position–when something went wrong, the legal rep was the first person targeted. Wendy was far too smart to put her own name there, especially when she knew her ventures were shady.

“This company’s been grooming its own stars lately,” Soren continued. “Some artists from my company were poached, and in less than a month they’ve been completely transformed— nothing like their old selves. I think something’s off. Since you’re investigating Wendy too, maybe we should work together.”

“Sounds like she’s stolen quite a few of your people,” Eliza said.

Soren didn’t want to admit it, but Wendy had indeed caused his company considerable damage. As a prominent figure in Westbrook, there was no way he could swallow this insult.

Eliza pulled up more details online and found that Wendigo Corp had recently launched several breakout stars.

Some who had been sweet and cute were suddenly recast as jaded, gothic types, drawing massive fan followings with their dark allure. Others, who had previously built careers on mature sex appeal, were now given an aloof, high–fashion look–something strange and avant- garde that captured public fascination.

But when Eliza studied the photos more closely, she noticed changes to their faces. These weren’t from surgery–artists nearing thirty suddenly had the smooth, collagen–rich faces of eighteen–year–old girls.

Her brow furrowed. She remembered the old factory videos her mother had recorded, showing production of a special formula that could slow aging by targeting cellular structures.

She was certain Wendy was connected to this.

Wendy was likely using the anti–aging compound on these stars–not only making money through their careers, but also using them as her private test subjects.

“I think I know what Wendy’s after,” Eliza murmured.

Then she told Soren, “I need to confirm something. I’ll call you back,” and hung up.

Nolan clearly shared her thoughts.

Before they left for abroad, they’d made multiple copies of the chip Emilia had left behind, just in case. Eliza pulled up one of the backups on her laptop. Sure enough, the footage from her mother’s factory clearly showed the anti–aging serum being produced.
