Chapter 563 The First Step
Vivian’s worry made Eliza laugh.
“Why are you laughing?” Vivian asked, flustered.

“Caring too much for a man is the first step to your own downfall,” Eliza said lightly. “If he faints from skipping breakfast, that’s his own problem. What you need to do is wait. Wait for him to come to you.”
“Cramer… will come to me?”
Vivian shook her head. She didn’t believe it. Since the day she arrived, Cramer had ignored her, refusing even to look at her. How could she imagine he would ever approach her first?
But Eliza’s tone was steady, certain. “Trust me. He will.”
Vivian nodded slowly, though doubt lingered in her eyes.
By noon, Jaylen personally delivered a meal to Cramer, but Cramer hadn’t eaten all day and had no appetite.
“Notify them,” he said without looking up from his papers. “The meeting starts in ten minutes.”
“Mr. Cullinan,” Jaylen urged, “you can’t neglect food for work. Should I have the cafeteria send something fresh up?”
“I don’t want it. Start the meeting–we still have much to prepare.”
With no other choice, the secretary followed his order.
Halfway through the meeting, Cramer’s vision blurred. His secretary quickly called a halt.
Back at the Cullinan estate, news spread fast–Cramer had collapsed from low blood sugar and been taken to the hospital.
Vivian’s face went pale, panic rushing through her.
Eliza, however, looked unsurprised. “I thought as much. He’s weaker than he pretends. A single skipped day, and he topples.”
Vivian clutched her hands. “But what if-”
“You don’t need to worry. When he returns tonight, that’s your chance,” Eliza cut in.
“My chance?”

“You’ll let him see you–then turn away at once,” Eliza explained.
Vivian frowned. “What good will that do?”

“Just do as I say.” Eliza leaned close and whispered her instructions. Vivian listened, bewildered, but at last nodded.
That evening, when Cramer returned from the hospital, his secretary scolded him, “Sir, this is too dangerous. You must take better care of yourself.”
Cramer rubbed his brow, expression unreadable. “Enough. You’ve said it enough times.”
As he stepped through the door, his eyes met Vivian’s.
For a moment, both were caught off guard.
Vivian longed to ask about his health. But remembering Eliza’s words, she steeled herself, turned sharply, and made to leave.
“Stop right there!”
The command burst out before Cramer even realized it. He startled himself–and Vivian too.
His secretary stared in shock. Mr. Cullinan had never, in all this time, initiated a word with her.
Vivian kept her gaze lowered, her voice soft. “Mr. Cullinan… do you need something?”
The new address struck him.
Once, she had always called him Cramer, clinging to the name. And now, just days later, she sounded distant, almost disinterested.
“Why haven’t you been cooking?” His tone was cool, but the words carried weight. “If you’re going to be the daughter–in–law of the Cullinan family, you’d better learn the kitchen.”
Vivian’s head jerked up, eyes wide with surprise. Did that mean… he had just acknowledged her as his future wife?
Her heart leapt, but she forced it down, recalling Eliza’s warning. She couldn’t show her joy
now.
