Finished

“When a man is still into you, he’ll promise you everything-say he’ll take care of you forever,” Victoria said. “But once he’s tired of you, he’ll throw it in your face: ‘You think your life would be this good if I hadn’t paid for it?””

Estella didn’t respond.

Seeing her daughter unmoved, Victoria pressed on, “You’ve been running that business for a while now, haven’t you? Look at you-you’ve worked yourself to the bone. And what do you get? Some nasty gossip accusing you of being a homewrecker, and now your whole career is teetering on the edge.

Don’t you get it? This world isn’t fair. A man cheats, and people call him charming. His career? Still booming. But a woman gets even a hint of scandal and it becomes a lifelong stain. Everyone points fingers like they want to destroy you.

Look at you-aren’t you the perfect example?”

She paused, then continued, “And if it hadn’t been for Winson spending money to boost your votes, would you even have made it this far? Would anyone have noticed you?

This world belongs to men. You want to compete with them? You’ll just end up being taken advantage of. Better to be with one man who ‘takes advantage’ of you than get pushed around by all of them in the workplace!”

But Estella’s mind stuck on one detail. “Winson paid for votes too?”

Victoria nodded. “Of course! He spent two million on you. That lawyer you like-he’d never spend that kind of money, would he? Don’t even think about it. He can’t give you the kind of life Winson can.”

Victoria had once lived as a wealthy wife. Naturally, she wanted her daughter to have the same.

Estella stood. “I need to clear things up with him. He shouldn’t be spending money on me

dub She didn’t feel guilty about Nathaniel spending money-he owed her more than that. But Winson was different. They weren’t even close. His generosity made her feel like she was in his debt.

Victoria grumbled, “You think men don’t need to spend money when they’re chasing women? When your father pursued me, he gave me designer bags, jewelry, a villa-real money! Let me tell you, dating a rich man is a joy. Dating a broke one means splitting the bill and eating plain

noodles. Don’t be foolish!”

Estella sighed. “Mom, it’s late. You should rest. I’ll visit again in a couple of days.”

Fiolshed

She finally managed to get Victoria to sleep and left the hospital.

In the taxi home, she thought about messaging Winson, but it was already late. She decided to wait until tomorrow.

The next day, Estella returned to work at the arts center. Seeing that Selene had managed things well and student enrollment was back on track, she felt the weight on her chest lift a little.

Around noon, a few young girls excitedly approached her, asking to take photos with the “TV

star.”

Estella smiled and obliged.

Just then, a familiar voice spoke up:

“I want a picture with Ms. Estella too.”

She looked up and saw Winson standing there with a bouquet of roses in hand.

Since she had wanted to talk to him anyway, she invited him to lunch.

Winson lit up. “Really? Great! I know just the place-let me take you.”

They went to a nearby restaurant.

Winson politely pulled out her chair and handed her the menu.

“The steak here is amazing. I’ll order you one. And the dessert? You have to try it—I’ll order that too.”

His enthusiasm was genuine, and Estella could tell his feelings were sincere.

But somehow, the more warmth he showed her, the more she felt overwhelmed.

Noticing her silence, Winson asked carefully, “You don’t like this place? We can go somewhere else. Just tell me what

you like…”

Estella shook her head. “It’s fine. We’ll eat here.”

Winson beamed. “Okay!”

As they were eating, a well-dressed couple approached.
