Nathaniel saw her leaving and tried to chase after her. But the moment he moved, he lost his balance and fell out of the hospital bed. The IV needle in the back of his hand was ripped out, and blood started pouring out. His back injury flared up, turning his face ghostly pale.

He called out weakly, “Estella, it hurts.”

Back then, when he was self–destructive and injured himself, Estella would always feel sorry for him and gently take care of him.

But not anymore.

She didn’t turn around. She walked away, firm and cold.

As if his pain no longer meant anything to her.

Nathaniel felt a dull ache spreading through his chest. Even when Isabelle left three years ago, it hadn’t hurt this much.

But Estella’s indifference, her lack of care, made it hard to breathe.

“Why…”

The rims of his eyes turned blood–red. He slammed his fist against the floor–over and over- until blood oozed from his knuckles.

“There’s no way I’ll let you bring that child back!”

Miranda was absolutely furious.

She wasn’t Winson’s biological mother, but when Winson was two, his birth mother divorced Brandon. Miranda hadn’t been able to have children of her own, so she’d raised Winson like her own son.

Over the years, Winson’s reckless lifestyle had always been cleaned up by Miranda.

In her mind, her son could date whoever he wanted, but marriage had to be strategic. Anyone beneath their social status was never going to be accepted into the family.

Winson hadn’t expected his mother to hide the fact that Britney had given birth to his son.

He was frustrated. “Mom, you should’ve told me about Britney back then. If you hadn’t stopped me, I would’ve already acknowledged my child. Growing up without a father isn’t good for him.”

Miranda snapped, “That child is illegitimate! If you bring him home, what wealthy heiress would still consider marrying you? Don’t be naïve–if we want the Shane family business to grow, marriage alliances are the fastest path forward.”

Winson was getting a headache from her yelling, but he remained firm. “No matter what, I’m claiming my son. He’s my blood. I can’t just leave him out there.”

Miranda was shaking with anger. “You’re never home as it is–what difference does it make if he’s acknowledged or not? I’m not agreeing to this. You want to bring him back? Fine. Do it after you get married!”

Winson knew there was no talking sense into her and got up to leave.

Watching him walk away without even turning back, Miranda started wiping away tears.

“He’s not my real son after all. Raise him for years and he still turns into an ungrateful brat. We argue a little and he storms out!”

She cursed under her breath, but after calming down, she realized she couldn’t just let this go. She needed to set him up with a proper girl ASAP.

Miranda moved quickly. She arranged a series of blind dates for Winson.

But Winson didn’t cooperate. He embarrassed the girls on purpose, and the dates were disasters.

Miranda started to suspect there was already someone in his heart. She had someone investigate which woman had been spending the most time with him lately.

She was determined to find out which seductress had managed to wrap her son around her finger.

Estella had been busy with the center’s latest promotional campaign. Just as she finally got a breather, Selene approached her with a proposal.

“I noticed the office upstairs is completely empty. Turns out they weren’t making any money in/ Javerton and pulled out. Their lease isn’t up yet, and the property manager hasn’t listed it for rent. We should strike while the iron’s hot and take the floor–it’ll give us way more space.”

Estella was hesitant. “That rent won’t be cheap. And are we even going to have enough students to fill the space?”
