Miranda hadn’t met Estella before, but she was already sure she had her completely figured out.

Estella stepped out of the office and spotted Miranda. She was surprised Winson’s mother had shown up, but still greeted her politely. “You’re here to see me? Let’s talk outside.”

After what had happened last time, Estella didn’t dare handle private matters in the workplace again–especially not with someone who looked as difficult as Miranda. If this turned into another scene, it could seriously damage the art center’s image.

Selene followed, tense and alert. In her head, she was already planning to jump in and kick Miranda out if she caused trouble. There was no way she was going to let anyone ruin their center’s reputation.

Estella gave Selene a calm “I’ve got this” look, then turned to Miranda with practiced grace. “Madam Miranda, this way, please.”

She led Miranda out.

Miranda, noting the girl’s decent manners, gave a cold snort and followed her into the elevator. They arrived at a nearby café.

Estella began, “What can I help you with, Madam Miranda?”

Miranda didn’t waste time. “My son is pursuing you. He seems serious. Is that true?”

Estella immediately understood.

She smiled politely. “I’ve made things very clear to Winson. You don’t need to worry–there’s nothing between us.”

“Really?”

Miranda didn’t buy it. With so many women eager to climb the social ladder, she doubted this one was any different. Probably playing hard to get, pushing him away just to pull him in tighter.

She’d used a few tricks of her own to marry Brandon, and even though she’d been divorced once, she would never allow her son to marry a divorced woman.

She got straight to the point. “I know what you’re after. You want money. But as long as I disapprove, even if Winson’s crazy about you, you’ll never step foot into my family. Britney is proof of that. So name your price. As long as it’s not outrageous, I can afford it. Take the money, and walk away from my son.”

Estella was momentarily stunned. This felt straight out of a soap opera.

She smirked. “And how much do you think I’m worth? A million? Two?”

Miranda’s face darkened–she hadn’t expected her to go so big.

“You really know how to ask for the moon, don’t you? Fine. Two million. I’ll give it to you. But after that, stay the hell away from my son.”

She pulled a contract out of her bag and laid it on the table. “Just so you can’t go back on your word, sign this agreement. Then the money’s yours.”

Estella smiled.

So this was how all rich women played. Madeline liked contracts, and so did Miranda.

She pushed the document back across the table. “Madam Miranda, I don’t want your money. And I can promise you–I will never date or marry Winson.”

“Oh, so two million isn’t enough? Looking for more?”

Miranda’s tone turned sharp. “I looked into you. You were married to that Hartwell boy, and after your divorce, you walked away with enough to start this business, didn’t you? Planning to run the same play again? Marry my son, divorce him, and walk away with half? If that’s your fantasy, let me stop you right now.”

Estella had no interest in continuing this conversation.

“No matter what I say, you won’t believe me. Since you’ve done your homework, why not go a little further? Look into how many times I’ve gone out with Winson. Have I ever clung to him? Have I chased after him?”

She glanced at the table. “I’m paying for this coffee. Think of it as my treat. There won’t be anything between Winson and me. No need for you to come after me again.”
