Chapter 150 Worth the Price?

Just moments ago, Estella’s aloof dignity had seemed admirable. Now, to Miranda, it looked downright detestable.
So she claimed she wanted to keep her distance from her son, yet shamelessly accepted his expensive gifts?
Seething, Miranda grabbed the coffee cup off the table and stormed after Estella, throwing its contents straight at her.
Estella had just finished paying the bill and hadn’t noticed Miranda’s sudden move. Just as the drink was about to hit her, a hand reached out and pulled her away.
Miranda missed and launched into a tirade. “You bitch! Drop the act! You’ve got the nerve to say there’s nothing between you and my son, but you’re happy to accept his gifts? Who are you trying to fool!”
Estella was caught off guard, ready to fire back, but the man beside her spoke first.
“Ma’am, that’s a strange thing to say. A man giving gifts to a woman he likes–that’s perfectly normal. Why are you criticizing her for that?”
Miranda fumed. “But my son’s not giving her some cheap trinket–he’s throwing around millions! Who the hell does she think she is to take that?”
The man chuckled. “Millions? That’s what this is about? I thought it was something serious. In my opinion, with looks like Ms. Estella’s, even giving her your entire fortune wouldn’t be too much.”
Miranda scoffed. “And who do you think you are? You think you can compare to my son? The Shane family’s entire fortune–if she took it, she wouldn’t even know what to do with it!”
The man snorted. “I’m Isaac, eldest son of the Monroe family. And if we’re comparing wealth and
status, I believe we’re more than a match for the Shane family.”
Miranda froze.
The Monroe family was one of the top names in Javerton–far beyond what the Shane family could rival. She hadn’t expected Isaac to be interested in Estella too. Compared to him, her son suddenly didn’t seem so impressive.
And as for who Estella would choose–it didn’t take much imagination to figure that out.
She was speechless.

Isaac smiled. “Glad to see you understand. I’d appreciate it if you’d stop harassing my friend. A woman like Ms. Estella deserves better than a petty family that nitpicks over a few million.”
Miranda had nothing to say. Red–faced, she turned and left.
Only after she was gone did Estella look at Isaac. He was Isabelle’s older brother. Why had he suddenly stepped in to help?
Her expression was complicated. “Thank you, Mr. Isaac.”
Isaac gave her a charming smile. “No need to thank me. We’ve met before, actually—at a few banquets. If I recall correctly, you’ve beaten my sister more than once.”
Estella raised an eyebrow. “You know your sister doesn’t like me, yet you helped me?”
Isaac laughed. “What goes on between you and my a beautiful woman—and I’m very interested.”
Estella didn’t like the way he said that.

Even Winson, for all his reputation as a playboy, had always behaved like a gentleman around her. But Isaac’s gaze made no effort to hide the way he sized her up. It made her
uncomfortable.
She
gave him a polite, stiff smile. “Thank you again, Mr. Isaac. I need to get back to work.”
“I did help you. Aren’t you going to buy me dinner?”
“Sorry, Mr. Isaac, I really don’t have time. Besides, someone of your wealth and status probably has no shortage of women willing to join you for a meal.”
Without waiting for a response, she walked off quickly.
Isaac watched her go, a playful smile tugging at his lips.
No wonder Nathaniel couldn’t forget this ex–wife–she was interesting. He’d dated his fair share of pretty faces, but never someone like her: smart, ambitious, and not easy to tame. Maybe his sister’s idea wasn’t so crazy after all. Maybe he really should try pursuing Estella.
After work, Estella ran into Jonathan.
They worked in the same building but rarely saw each other because of their busy schedules. Seeing him now, Estella was genuinely happy. She greeted him warmly.
Jonathan was on the phone but ended the call quickly when he saw her. “Dinner?”
