Jonathan served her some food and said, “You’ve lost weight lately, eat a little more.”

Estella smiled. “You’ve lost weight too, you should cat more yourself.”

Jonathan ate as he answered messages on his phone.

“Are you very busy?” Estella asked.

“There are a few tricky cases right now, so things are a bit hectic,” Jonathan replied. Suddenly, he thought of something and asked, “At the end of the month our firm is going on a company trip. Do you want to come with me?”

Estella’s heart skipped at the invitation. “I can go too?”

“Of course. I’ll cover all the expenses. You’ve been tired for a long time, you should relax a little.”

“How could I let you pay for me? I’ll cover the airfare myself.”

Jonathan shook his head. “No need. Our recent cases have been very profitable, that’s why the firm is treating everyone to the trip. Bringing you along doesn’t make a difference. If you really feel bad about it, you can do me a favor instead.”

“What kind of favor?”

“I bought a new apartment nearby,” Jonathan said. “I plan to renovate it. Help me decide on the design?”

“Of course.”

Estella was genuinely interested. She had been thinking of buying her own place, and this was good practice.

Jonathan chuckled. “Your taste is better than mine, so I’ll count on you.”

Estella answered without hesitation. “It’s nothing, really. I should be thanking Mr. Bennett for treating me to a trip.”

Jonathan seized the chance. “I’m free Saturday. How about we visit the new place first, then check out the home furnishing market?”

“Sounds good.”

Estella added, “I’ll look up different design styles these next two days so we can decide

On Saturday, Jonathan and Estella went to see the new apartment.

It was a flat of over three hundred square meters, already finished with basic decoration, only needing furniture and interior details.

Estella had checked the property prices in that area — twelve million per hundred square meters. With this floor’s lighting and orientation, it was likely worth even more.

So Mr. Bennett really had quite the income. She couldn’t help but be impressed.

But then she grew curious. “Mr. Bennett, if you had the means to buy this place, why did you keep renting that old apartment before?”

“It wasn’t about the money,” Jonathan explained. “I didn’t want help from my family. When I first came to Javerton to start my own firm, things were tight, so I rented there. Later, even after I could afford more, I stayed. I was used to it, and it was close to the firm.”

“So why move now?”

Jonathan gave her a thoughtful look, lips curving in a way that made her cheeks flush. He didn’t

answer.

Flustered, she changed the subject. “If you move into your new home, we won’t be neighbors anymore.”

He wanted to tell her that if she wished, they could live together here. But he held back.

Instead, he smiled. “It’s not like I’ll move in right away. But if you want to stay my neighbor, work hard, make some money, and buy the place next door.”

He meant it as a joke, but Estella took it seriously. She liked the neighborhood, and even though she couldn’t afford it yet, she thought it was a good goal to have. If it meant staying close to Jonathan, all the better.

After the house tour, they went to a home furnishing market.

Estella had never been to one before. During her three years with Nathaniel, she had been confined to the house, never allowed to choose or change anything.

Now, browsing furniture and decorations was both refreshing and exciting.

Jonathan asked for her opinion on everything.
