Victoria’s eyes landed on the fruit. “Imported fruit? That must’ve been expensive. Why didn’t you give some to Lina when she was here?”

Estella pulled a wry smile and couldn’t help blurting out what she knew about Winson’s illegitimate child.

But then she hesitated. “Still, if he doesn’t intend to marry that woman, then she can’t threaten you. And if she won’t even allow the child to live in his household, then maybe it’s not such a big deal.”

Estella let out a bitter laugh. “So you really don’t mind me becoming a stepmother?”

Victoria sighed. “Times have changed. Young rich men today aren’t like the ones from before. Your father was a good man, but too soft- that’s why he couldn’t hold on.
