Jonathan quickly waved her off. “No need, Grandma. You’ve prayed already, it’s the same.”

“How could it be the same?” she huffed. “The priest told me you’re facing a calamity this year. If you can’t get through it, something terrible will happen. I came all the way from Kingston just to help you avoid this disaster.”

Jonathan frowned. “Grandma, that’s nonsense. Don’t listen to them.”

guess such things with a little digging. Did that really count as fortune–telling?

He didn’t argue further and instead asked, “So how long will you be staying in Javerton? You brought your doctors with you?”

“Of course I did,” Madam Rosemary said proudly. “Don’t worry about me. Right now, the important one is you! Tell me, how are things going with Wendy? The priest said your calamity can only be resolved by her. I came this time to help you two along.”

She had always fretted over her younger grandson’s love life.

The elder one had married early – no trouble at all.

But Jonathan was different. No dating, no marriage, nothing. It drove her mad.

At her words, Jonathan’s expression darkened.

“Grandma, I’ve told you before, Wendy and I are impossible.”

“How so? You two grew up together. Don’t tell me you don’t feel anything for her. Why can’t you be more like your brother? He married Mia right after graduation. Why can’t you bring Wendy home as your wife?”

“Because everyone’s needs are different. At most, I see Wendy as a sister. I don’t have the slightest interest in her.”

Jeremy liked childhood sweetheart romances. That didn’t mean he did.

But Madam Rosemary wouldn’t hear of it. “Next weekend then. I’ll have Wendy come over for dinner.”

She knew Wendy had stayed in Javerton because of Jonathan. It was the perfect chance to bring them together.

Jonathan’s tone was flat. “Grandma, even if you force us, nothing will happen between me and Wendy. And besides, I’m busy next weekend.”

“What could you possibly be busy with? Work overtime?”

“My firm’s retreat,” Jonathan said. “We’re going to Sinovia.”
