Chapter 183 Grandmother’s Secret Encounters

Jonathan rinsed out a cup and prepared some tea, something to help his grandmother digest after her meal.

His

eyes fell on the thermos sitting on the table. It looked familiar.

Grandma, did you buy this?he asked.

Madam Rosemary glanced at it. No, no. I got it from a lovely young lady I met near your place. She

gave it to me as a gift.”

Jonathan’s tone was calm, but his words carried quiet concern. It’s almost the end of the year. Scammers are everywhere. Don’t go trusting strangers too easilythose fake monks, fortune tellers, people peddling miracle cures, or pretending they can’t afford food. Best to stay far away from them.

She snorted. Do you take me for a fool? I’ve got several bodyguards with me. Who could possibly trick me? Besides, that girl actually saved me. I choked on a taro milk tea once, and she helped me. Later, when I was waiting for you at your building and caught a chill, she brought me home, cooked for me. Her fish was delicious. Pretty tooand a piano teacher! If you weren’t already tied up with Wendy, I’d have wanted her for my granddaughterinlaw.”

Jonathan immediately guessed who she was talking about.

So Grandmother had already met Estellatwice.

And she seemed to have taken a liking to her. That was good. It meant that when the time came to formally introduce Estella, there wouldn’t be much resistance.

He didn’t mention his own connection to Estella, though. Instead, he latched onto something else.

Grandma, you’ve been sneaking milk tea? And you even choked on it?

She froze, realizing she had slipped, and quickly covered her mouth. No, no, I didn’t drink any milk tea.

Jonathan nodded. I see. I’ll have a word with the butler. The bodyguardspay will be docked half a month’s salary.

What did you just say!

She scowled. What do the bodyguards have to do with it?

If her grandson punished them, they’d only get stricter with her afterward.

Jonathan raised a brow. The doctor’s orders are clear. The bodyguards know what you can’t eat. If they let you buy it anyway, that’s negligence. The Bennett family doesn’t pay them two hundred thousand a month just to look the other way.”

He might defy his grandmother in words, but his concern for her health was obvious.

Madam Rosemary huffed. You heartless capitalist. No wonder people on TikTok curse your family!

Jonathan set the steaming cup of tea before her. I’m no capitalist. That would be my elder brother. But you’re our grandmotheryou’re part of the family too. Doesn’t that make you one of them?”

She puffed up indignantly. Nonsense. I’m just an old woman who minds her own business. What kind of capitalist would I be?

Fine. If her grandson insisted on docking their pay, she would just slip the bodyguards the money later. They’d been with her for years. She couldn’t let them suffer on her account.

After all, they’d devoted their youth to guarding an old lady, to the point they hadn’t even had time to marry. Pitiful boys. She couldn’t let them go broke on top of it.

Once she’d eaten and sipped the tea her grandson made, her mood softened. The weather’s nice today. Since your friend can’t come, why not ask Wendy to join us? We could go out for a walk and have lunch together.”

Jonathan began clearing the dishes. Grandma, you already had two pork ribs. You really think you can handle a big lunch too? I’ll have the nutritionist make you some soft oats. You can have porridge today. And yes, you should walk moreat least ten thousand steps today.

Madam Rosemary looked ready to cry.

When he wasn’t around, she thought he didn’t care about her.

When he was around, he micromanaged everything until she couldn’t breathe.
