Chapter 43 A Price for Every Sin
By the next afternoon, Professor Grant’s team arrived.
Estella was rushed into another surgery.
This time, it was a success-by the following morning, she briefly woke up before drifting off again from
exhaustion.
Still, her condition was fragile. Jonathan, deeply worried, personally asked Professor Grant to remain in the country for a while.
Professor Grant, who owed Jeremy a great favor and now knew Jonathan was his younger brother, didn’t refuse.
Meanwhile, Isabelle was still admitted in the same hospital.
Her wounds looked dramatic but were mostly superficial-though she made sure to act like they were life- threatening to keep Nathaniel’s attention.
She moaned to him, “The doctor said I might have a minor concussion… and my face could scar. If I end up disfigured, I swear I’m suing Estella.”
Nathaniel flinched at the thought. If Isabelle filed charges, Estella might go to prison.
He wanted to persuade Isabelle to let it go…. but the words stuck in his throat.
Eventually, he figured it’d be best to talk to Estella first. If Estella apologized, maybe Isabelle would cool
off.
He stepped out to ask a nurse which room Estella was in-and that’s when he caught sight of someone familiar from the news.
Professor Grant.
The world-renowned head of a prestigious overseas medical lab.
If he treated Isabelle, her recovery would be guaranteed.
Nathaniel hurried over and stopped him. “Professor Grant, could I ask a favor?”
The professor turned to him calmly. “Yes?”
“I have a friend-her face was injured. There’s a chance of scarring. Could you help treat her?”
Professor Grant politely declined. “Sorry, sir. I’m very busy. Please find another doctor.”
Nathaniel pressed on. “I’ll pay. Whatever your price, I can cover it.”
Still, Professor Grant shook his head. “I’m sorry. I can’t help.”
He left, face expressionless.

Nathaniel watched him go, frustration simmering beneath the surface.
Arrogant bastard. He’d offered good money. What more did this guy want?
He called Dan. “I need a favor. There’s a doctor refusing to help. Can you… persuade him?”
Dan replied confidently, “Piece of cake. Send me his photo.”
That night, Estella’s condition suddenly took a downturn.
Jonathan told his assistant to fetch Professor Grant.
But the professor was nowhere to be found.
Surveillance footage showed him being pulled into a van near the hospital entrance.
Jonathan immediately contacted Director Wei.
Within two hours, Professor Grant was rescued and returned-shaken but alive.
He told Jonathan he’d been kidnapped.
Jonathan’s eyes darkened, a chilling aura radiating off him.
Even Professor Grant shuddered under the pressure.
Jonathan composed himself. “Please… just focus on Estella’s care for now.”
Then he turned and went looking for Nathaniel.
He found him just outside a hospital room, on the phone.
“What? Professor Grant was picked up by the police?” Nathaniel scowled. This was Dan’s second failure.
Dan’s voice on the other end tried to reassure him. “We lost a few men, but don’t worry-they won’t mention you.”
Nathaniel thanked him and transferred two million to Dan’s account.
But with that path closed, he had to try something else.
He couldn’t let Isabelle press charges against Estella.
Just as he turned to head to Estella’s room, a figure approached-and punched him square in the face.
Blood spilled from his nose. He wiped it, stunned, and looked up.
It was the lawyer-Jonathan.
