The Invisible Wife Turned Savage novel Chapter 48

Chapter 48 Invitations and Implications

If Jonathan wanted to take things further, Estella felt she’d need to think carefully about it.

She had been married once. Even if he didn’t mind, would his family be as open? She didn’t want to enter another relationship that would ultimately fall apart. If they were going to start something, both of them needed to be sure.

Jonathan still had work to do, so he said his goodbyes. But before leaving, he made a gentle offer: “I’m free Sunday evening. Want to have dinner together?”

It was a formal invitation-one that carried meaning.

Estella hesitated, but in the end, she followed her heart. “Okay.”

Jonathan smiled, clearly pleased. Then he leaned in and gently pressed a kiss to her forehead.

Estella froze, too stunned to react in time.

With a soft, knowing look, he said, “From this moment on, I’ll be looking forward to Sunday night.”

Then he returned to his apartment, leaving her dazed in the doorway. She leaned against the door, heart pounding in disbelief.

She knew she didn’t reject Jonathan’s affection-in fact, her racing heartbeat told her just how strongly she responded to it.

And she was beginning to think: maybe she wouldn’t be able to resist Mr. Jonathan’s charm after all.

The next day in the practice room, Estella noticed a new colleague.

His name was Wayne. A violinist-tall, well-groomed, with tattooed arms and a clear American accent. He greeted everyone warmly and even treated the group to afternoon snacks.

That’s when Estella learned he wasn’t exactly new-he’d taken an extended leave before she’d joined.

Curious about why so many female colleagues seemed eager to please him, she asked around.

Trent leaned over and whispered, “Wayne is Waylon’s son.”

It all clicked instantly.

Waylon’s status in the orchestra was second only to Mr. Chase. No wonder everyone tread so lightly around Wayne.

During a break, Wayne walked over and offered Estella a bottle of water.

She was a little surprised but still accepted it politely. “Thank you.”

“I really like your piano playing,” he added with a smile. “It’s impressive.”

She thanked him again, but her response was cool.

That only seemed to deepen Wayne’s interest.

He wasn’t used to women being so indifferent around him-especially not beautiful ones like Estella, who happened to be exactly his type.

Blunt and confident, he asked directly, “Want to grab dinner tonight?”

Estella was caught off guard. But when she looked into his eyes, she understood-there was heat there. The kind of straightforward desire men didn’t always bother hiding.

Even if she knew rejecting him might offend, she still did so politely. “I’m sorry. I’ve got plans tonight.”

Wayne gave a knowing smile and shrugged. “That’s a shame. Maybe next time, then.”

When a girl from the group called him, he waved at Estella and left.

She let out a breath once he was gone.

Over the next two days, Wayne kept finding excuses to chat with her, always bringing snacks or drinks. It made her uncomfortable, though she didn’t say anything outright.

On Friday evening, Waylon announced a group dinner.

Estella didn’t care for these kinds of social events, but with someone like Waylon giving the order, she had no choice but to put on a good face and attend.

The group gathered at a large restaurant, taking over a private room.

Wayne sat beside her, far too close for comfort. He kept brushing against her with his elbow.

Estella tried to swap seats with Trent, but Wayne gently held her arm and said with a smile,

“I’ve got a few things I wanted to ask you. Stay here, okay?”

His tone was smooth and polite, and with Waylon present, she couldn’t risk offending him.

So she stayed.

Seeing her sit back down, Wayne leaned in and murmured in her ear,

“I said I wanted to have dinner with you and you didn’t come. But now that my dad called for it, here you are. Estella, let’s have dinner together—just us-next time, yeah?”
