The Invisible Wife Turned Savage novel Chapter 49

Chapter 49 Warning Signs

Wayne gave a low whistle toward Isabelle and was about to turn away.

But Isabelle called out, “You interested in Estella?”

Wayne raised an eyebrow. “Hm?”

Smiling sweetly, Isabelle said, “You’ve been away for a while. Maybe you don’t know about her… Do know what kind of relationship she has with Mr. Chase?”

She pulled up an old tabloid article, showing the fabricated rumors that had once spread about Estella online.

“She’s not as clean as she looks. You might want to keep your eyes open.”

Wayne studied the screenshots. Rather than backing off, his interest only deepened.

“Well, that’s perfect,” he said, unconcerned. “I was just looking for a little fun. If she were some untouchable saint, that’d be boring.”

Then, with a sly grin, he added, “Why are you showing me this? What’s your angle?”

Isabelle arched her brow. “Just being friendly.”

Wayne didn’t buy that for a second. But he didn’t care enough to press her for the truth.

He turned back toward the private dining room. His eyes landed on Estella-like a predator sizing up prey.

He licked his lips. This was going to be fun.

After the dinner, Wayne insisted on walking Estella out.

She didn’t want his company, but he tailed her all the way.

“Want me to walk you home?” he offered.

She shook her head. “No need. I live nearby.”

Still grinning, he leaned closer and lowered his voice. “What’s wrong with me, huh? Why so distant? You might actually like me-especially in bed.”

The sleazy confidence in his voice made her skin crawl.

Estella’s expression turned cold. “Wayne, show some respect.”

Not wanting to engage any further, she quickly flagged down a cab and left without another word.

Wayne stood watching her disappear into the night, his eyes gleaming with amusement.

He was even more intrigued now. He would have her-sooner or later.

At home, Estella was still shaken.

She warmed up a glass of milk, trying to calm down, when the doorbell rang.

Her heart jumped-part of her still on edge from Wayne’s earlier harassment.

She peeked through the peephole.

It was Jonathan.

Relieved, she opened the door.

He held up a cake box. “Just got off work. Picked this up from the bakery-want to try it?”

Estella took the box, surprised. “You got me a cake this late?”

But Jonathan noticed something was off. Her face looked pale.

“You feeling alright?”

She gave a faint smile. “I’m fine. Just a little tired today.”

He didn’t press further. “Then rest up. Goodnight.”

“Goodnight.”

After closing the door, she tucked the cake in the fridge and returned to her room.

Just as she lay down, her phone buzzed.

It was a message from Wayne.

She opened WhatsApp.

There were several shirtless selfies of him showing off his abs, along with two voice messages.

Estella didn’t bother listening-she could already guess what kind of trash they contained.

She calmly took screenshots of the chat, set his number to Do Not Disturb, and put the phone away.

The next morning, Estella got up and retrieved the cake from the fridge.

As she opened the box, she was taken aback.

It was the exact cake she’d mentioned liking the last time she and Jonathan had gone out to eat.

That bakery was always packed. You usually had to wait in line..

She hadn’t expected him to remember-let alone go out of his way to get it.

Warmth bloomed in her chest.

She snapped a photo of the cake and sent it to Jonathan. “Thanks for the cake. It’s delicious.”
