Chapter 68 The One Everyone Owes

Victoria hadn’t expected her daughter to be this stubborn. Her anger spiked, “You’re doing this to hurt me! What’s so wrong with Nathaniel that you have to treat him this way?”
After these past few days of watching Nathaniel be so attentive-so devoted-Victoria had long accepted him as family again. Her mind was set: she was going to push Estella to remarry.
Estella knew her mother wasn’t in the best health, so she didn’t argue. She wiped her mouth, stood, and walked to the entryway to put on her shoes.
Victoria followed. “Come back early tonight and have dinner with Nathaniel.”
Estella replied coolly, “We’ll see.”
She met Selene at a café.
“Lana told me one of the floors in their building is up for rent,” Selene said cheerfully. “She’s taking her lunch break later, and she’ll show us the space.”
Estella blinked. That was the same building as Jonathan’s law firm.
Selene caught her reaction and smirked. “I’ve suspected something was going on between you and Mr. Jonathan. Now you’ll be working in the same building-upstairs, downstairs, running into each other every day? Something’s bound to spark.”
Estella thought of how Jonathan had quietly helped her again and again. She couldn’t deny that he probably had feelings for her. But since he’d never said anything outright, she wasn’t bold enough to ask. Besides, she was freshly divorced-she didn’t have the courage to make the first
move.
She changed the subject. “That building… renting an entire floor must be expensive.”
“Lana said Mr. Jonathan knows the building’s owner and can help us get a discount,” Selene explained. “She already talked to him, and he agreed to help. We’ll treat him and Lana to lunch after-he deserves a proper thank you. Oh, and Lana told me this wasn’t about her at all. Mr. Jonathan agreed because it’s your project.”
Estella sighed. She hadn’t wanted to trouble Jonathan again… yet somehow, everything still
circled back to him.
“You’re right. We should thank him properly,” she said. “Pick a good restaurant. We’ll treat
them.”
“Already done,” Selene said, grinning.

At noon, Lana called. Selene and Estella headed to Tonghui Law Firm.

After a few minutes, Jonathan and Lana stepped out. Jonathan was on a call, but when he saw Estella waiting by the door, he ended it quickly.
Since she knew him better, Estella greeted him first.
Jonathan nodded. “Let’s go. I’ll take
I’ll take you there.”
He kept his tone neutral and businesslike. “I know the owner personally. I can probably get you a discount. But the lease term starts at three years, with three months’ rent paid upfront. Is that manageable for you?”
Selene looked uncertain. That kind of upfront payment would be a strain on their startup budget. She turned to Estella for input.
Estella answered immediately. “Yes, that’s fine.”
She had the funds from selling her villa. It was a big expense, but she could manage it.
Jonathan was a little surprised by her decisiveness. He’d expected some hesitation-rent for an entire floor wasn’t cheap, and paying four months at once was no small matter. Clearly, Estella had more resolve than he’d anticipated.
The two women toured the space and were quickly convinced. This was exactly where they wanted to start their business.
A building manager arrived with the contract. Estella and Selene negotiated a few final details. When they learned the rent had been discounted by 20%, they were stunned.
Jonathan’s influence ran deep.
After signing, the manager presented Jonathan with a beautifully packaged box. “Mr. Anderson specifically asked me to give you this ivory tea.”
Jonathan didn’t refuse and had his assistant take it.
