But what did it matter? As long as he could keep her by his side, Nathaniel believed that one day, she would fall in love with him again.

He smiled and took a step back. “Alright, I won’t touch you. Let’s talk, Estella.”

Estella didn’t lower the ladle in her hand. She stared at him warily, as if she were bracing for him to lunge at her at any second.

Nathaniel pulled out his phone and, right in front of her, blocked Isabelle’s number and WhatsApp contact.

Estella blinked. “What are you doing?”

She hadn’t expected him to cut Isabelle off so easily.

Nathaniel smiled gently. “I know you divorced me because you were jealous of Isabelle. Now, I’m showing you I’ve ended things with her. Can’t you give me a chance? Just three months. Give me three months. If you still don’t love me by then, I’ll let you go.”

But Estella didn’t follow his logic.

“Why would I agree to that?” she sneered. “Play along for three months in your childish little redemption fantasy? Endure your boring, tone-deaf attempts at ‘winning me back”?”

Nathaniel’s smile froze, replaced by a flicker of anger.

“You’re really not going to consider your mother? She’s clearly on my side. And as long as I say the word, she’s never leaving the Hartwell house.”

Estella’s jaw clenched. “You think you can manipulate my mother forever? Nathaniel, have some damn shame.”

She shoved past him and stormed out of the kitchen,

Nathaniel watched her retreating back, a storm of suppressed rage and frustration churning in his chest. He clenched his jaw until it ached.

Estella returned to the dining room. Victoria took her hand and said with a teasing smile, “Why’d you come out so soon?”

She had hoped her daughter would stay in the kitchen longer, maybe let some sparks fly with Nathaniel.

Estella didn’t hesitate. “Mom, he ignored my boundaries and tried to force himself on me. And

Victoria blinked in confusion, then brushed it off with a soft laugh. “Oh, honey. He loves that’s why he got a little… impulsive. That’s not forcing anything.”

you-

Estella frowned, voice sharp and serious. “If a woman clearly says no, and a man ignores it, that is force. In legal terms, it’s harassment.”

Victoria looked lost.

“You’re being too stubborn,” she sighed. “Where is there such a thing as force between husband and wife?”

“We’re divorced.”

“So get remarried. You’re already back living here, aren’t you?”

“Mom!” Estella’s voice shook with frustration.

Victoria blinked at her, unfazed. “I don’t care. If you don’t remarry Nathaniel, I’m not going back to the hospital. And if anything happens to me, it’s on you.”

Estella’s face flushed with anger. “You know how much I worry about your health. And yet you’re using that to help him corner me.”

“I’m doing this for your own good,” Victoria said stubbornly. “I don’t care what happens to me. But I must see you happy. And marrying Nathaniel is the only way you’ll ever be happy.”

She was completely brainwashed. There was no reasoning with her anymore.

That evening, Jeremy called Jonathan before the end of the workday,

“Drink with me?”

He hadn’t expected Jonathan to say yes.

“Sure. Where?”

Surprised, Jeremy gave him the address. “I’ll be waiting.”

When Jonathan arrived, Jeremy was still on a video call with Mia.

After blowing his wife a kiss through the screen, he turned the phone toward Jonathan. “He’s here. Want to say hi?”

Jonathan stepped into the frame, smiling politely. “Mia.”

Mia looked sweet and gentle, her curious eyes watching him. “Jonathan, I heard you’ve got someone you like. When are you bringing her home?”

Estella’s face flashed through his mind.

But his eyes dimmed.
