Jeremy didn’t have to wait long before Estella replied. “I’m on my way.”

He glanced over at the dazed Jonathan, patted his shoulder, and grinned. “That’s the best I can do for you, buddy.”

Estella arrived in a hurry, a few crystals of sweat clinging to her forehead. Her breathing was slightly uneven from running. As soon as she stepped into the room, her eyes landed on Jonathan-seated silently on the large, plush sofa.

But this wasn’t the usual Jonathan. Gone was the refined, restrained man with his signature air of calm elegance. His deep, still eyes had softened into something startlingly innocent-pure, even—as if untouched by the world. He looked less like the aloof lawyer she knew and more like a lost child who didn’t know where to go.

The contrast struck Estella like a slap. For a moment, she just stood there, completely forgetting why she’d come.

Eventually, she came back to herself and waved her hand slowly in front of his face. He didn’t

react.

Then, suddenly, Jonathan turned his head and looked at her. Their eyes met. For the briefest second, he seemed confused, like he’d just woken from a dream. Then, a flicker of emotion rose in his gaze-something vulnerable, something sad. Like a dog abandoned by its owner.

“…Hug,” he murmured softly. His voice trembled, barely above a whisper, and yet it hit Estella square in the chest.

She froze, completely unsure how to respond.

It took everything she had to haul his tall frame off the couch. Jonathan was heavy and off- balance, and they nearly fell over more than once just trying to get out of the room.

When a taxi finally pulled up, she helped him into the backseat and told the driver the address.

During the ride, she kept stealing glances at him.

He was staring at her. His gaze was unwavering, tender, and impossibly gentle-like a child who trusted her completely. There was a strange innocence to him now, a sweetness she didn’t know he had. Something about it tugged at her chest in a way she didn’t understand.

Then, without warning, Jonathan leaned in and gently rested his forehead on her shoulder. His

She flinched, then quickly caught his head in her hands. “Stop moving around,” she whispered, flustered.

But Jonathan didn’t respond. He just frowned slightly and muttered something under his breath.

“…Dizzy…”

His words were slurred and low, almost inaudible.

Estella immediately lowered her voice. “We’re almost there. Just hang on a little longer. I’ll make you something to help sober up when we get to your place.”

Maybe he understood-because he nodded slowly.

“…Okay…”

He sounded so docile, so obedient. Like a lamb.

Estella couldn’t help it-she laughed. She hadn’t meant to, but the contrast was too much. Jonathan, who was always so composed, so serious, was now drunk and clinging to her like a puppy. Who would’ve guessed he could be like this?
