For reasons she couldn’t explain, a complex mess of emotions surged inside Estella-so tightly tangled she found it hard to breathe.

Technically speaking, she had no right to interfere in Jonathan’s personal matters. After all, they weren’t in a relationship.

Even so, with that smile stretched stiff across her face, she forced herself to wonderful. She really seems like a good match for Mr. Jonathan.”

Lana and Selene stared at her in disbelief. “You’re not even a little upset?” they asked in unison.

Anyone could see the quiet tension that lingered between Estella and Mr. Jonathan-that faint, unspoken something. Even as outsiders, Lana and Selene could feel it. More than that, they knew Jonathan had gone out of his way to personally handle the entire office lease. A man like him-aloof, busy, unwilling to waste a second-would never involve himself in trivial matters unless he cared.

And it wasn’t hard to guess who he cared about.

“Estella, if this bothers you at all, you have to tell Mr. Jonathan how you feel,” Lana said, worried.

Selene quickly agreed. “Exactly! Good men don’t stay on the market forever. When one, you have to hold on tight-especially now. This isn’t the time to back down.”

But after everything Estella had gone through in her broken marriage, the fire and hope she once held for love had long since cooled.

She smiled lightly. “You’re both overthinking it. There’s nothing like that between me and Mr. Jonathan.”

She knew Jonathan had gotten upset about her staying at the Hartwell house and her unresolved ties to Nathaniel. She’d wanted to explain things to him-but they weren’t close enough yet. Explaining might just make things awkward.

She sighed quietly, unsure how to handle it all.

Lana, watching her closely, blinked slowly-then quietly snapped a photo of Estella’s wistful side profile and sent it off to Jeremy.

Since spending more time at the firm, Jeremy had quickly become popular with the staff thanks to his bright personality and easy charm. He’d also learned that Lana and Estella were

The moment he put two and two together, Jeremy made up his mind: he’d help his poker- faced little brother win the girl.

Lana had readily agreed. Their boss-forever single, buried in work-was a decent guy. She thought he and Estella were a perfect match.

When Jeremy received the photo, his eyebrows lifted slightly. Then he sent Lana a simple message: “Address?”

She didn’t hesitate-her reply came almost instantly.

By that point, Jeremy had already arrived at the firm.

He stepped into Jonathan’s office and saw him still buried in work behind the desk.

Without waiting for a greeting, Jeremy strode over, gave his brother a friendly pat on the shoulder, and said, “Enough of that. Come have lunch with me.”
