Selene gave Jonathan a playful wink after her cheerful suggestion.

Next to her, Lana crossed her arms, watching the scene unfold with an amused glint in her eye. Her lips curved into a subtle smirk-her Selene really knew how to stir the pot.

She thought, This Selene is something else. And Jeremy? Not bad at all. He actually dragged the infamous workaholic boss out for a meal.

Wendy blinked her wide doe eyes, looking up at Jonathan with innocent curiosity. “Jonathan, are these your friends?”

Her gaze naturally settled on Estella, and as her eyes swept over her, an involuntary flicker of hostility stirred inside her.

Among the three women, Estella was undoubtedly the standout. With delicate features and a soft, tenacious aura like a little camellia in bloom, Wendy felt an unprecedented sense of threat rising from her chest.

Jonathan, standing cold and silent, gave no sign of wanting to explain anything to anyone.

He already understood why Jeremy had insisted on coming to this restaurant. Slowly turning his head, he gave Jeremy a long, dark stare filled with murderous intent.

But Jeremy pretended not to notice. With a bright smile, he jumped in to introduce everyone as if he were hosting a family dinner.

He gestured to Wendy. “This is Wendy. A… friend.”

Then he moved on to the others. “This lovely lady is Lana, the famous beauty and lawyer of Luminary Partners & Co.!”

Lana gave a modest smile. “Flattered. Just a small fry, really.”

“And these two-Estella and Selene-are renowned piano teachers and new entrepreneurs, right?”

Selene grinned, eyes twinkling. “Ah, if only we’d met Mr. Jeremy earlier! We might’ve landed a very generous investor!”

Jeremy laughed, “Why not? We’ve met now. There’ll be plenty of chances to work together.”

Jonathan stiffened at that, dreading that his brother might accidentally mention the fact that he’d been secretly supporting Estella’s music center. He discreetly elbowed Jeremy in the ribs and muttered under his breath, “Shut up and order food.”

Jeremy clutched his chest dramatically. “Ow! That hurt, you brute! If it weren’t for the fact that you once saved my ass in court, I’d totally be plotting my revenge right now!”

As he clowned around, he made sure to give Jonathan a few covert winks-still keeping their brotherly bond under wraps.

Then he promptly shoved Jonathan into the seat directly across from Estella.

Wendy naturally took the seat beside Jonathan.

Jeremy plopped down next to Selene, and the group settled into their spots.

To a stranger, everything might have seemed perfectly polite and orderly. But those who knew better-Lana, Selene, and of course Jeremy-could practically taste the tension in the air.

Lana bit her lip to stifle a grin. Mr. Jeremy is really pulling out all the stops.

Estella, now face-to-face with Jonathan, felt strangely awkward and unsettled.

Jonathan, expression unreadable, looked out the window.

Jeremy called for the menu and began ordering with great enthusiasm.

As the dishes began to arrive, the strong scent of red pepper and pungent spice quickly filled the air. Flaming red oil glistened over each plate.

Jonathan’s frown deepened.

To him, this was a culinary nightmare. Not a single dish looked edible.

Before

anyone else reacted, Wendy jumped in.

She called the waiter over and requested hot water. Then, using her fork, she gently dipped the oily dishes into the water to rinse away the spice before placing the “cleaned” food on Jonathan’s plate with a sweet smile.

“Try this,” she said warmly. “It shouldn’t be too spicy anymore.”

Estella watched silently, her emotions a mix of bitter and confused.

Wendy clearly liked Jonathan-a lot. She even knew his dietary preferences. It was obvious they’d shared many meals before.

But Jonathan didn’t touch the food Wendy had prepared for him.

Wendy’s smile faltered for a second. “If you don’t like this, I can order some stir-fried greens-”
