Leanna gestured toward Zinnia. “Isn’t that right, Zinnia?”
Zinnia nodded in agreement.
“I’m going in to see Granddad.”
Landon stepped forward and quietly pushed the door open, slipping inside.
Neither Zinnia nor Leanna followed him in.
After all, this was a private family matter. Although Zinnia and Landon weren’t formally divorced yet, she knew that if Leanna wasn’t even in the loop, then Zane clearly didn’t want outsiders involved. It wasn’t her place to stay any longer.
So she turned to Leanna and said, “Since Granddad’s alright, I’ll head out now.”
“Zinnia, you’re just leaving? You’re not going to wait for my brother?”
Zinnia didn’t answer. She simply waved goodbye and turned to leave.
Enliven Private Hospital was only about a ten-minute walk from Veridian University, so Zinnia planned to walk back to campus.
But as soon as she stepped out of the inpatient wing, she heard hurried footsteps behind her, followed by Landon’s anxious voice.
“Zinnia.”
She looked back to see Landon quicken his pace to catch up.
“Aren’t you going to stay with Granddad?”
He fell in step beside her, his gaze lingering on her face with a touch of longing before he looked away.
“Dad and Lacey are with him. He’ll be fine without me.”
Zinnia nodded and kept walking toward the exit.
