Yuri stepped right into his path, a cold smirk twisting her lips.
“You do realize you’re the ex-son-in-law now, right? Or is self-awareness not your thing?”
Landon looked completely unfazed. “As long as Zinnia and I are still technically married, even if it’s just for one more second, I’m still her husband. So anyone thinking of swooping in ought to curb their second-rate ambitions.”
“Wow, Landon, I never knew you were so delusional.”
“And I never knew you could be so shameless and self-obsessed.”
The two of them volleyed back and forth, the tension thickening—seconds away from coming to blows—when Jessica finally interjected, rubbing her temples. “Enough. Neither of you is going anywhere.”
She switched to her authoritative, matriarchal tone and pointed to the sofa. “If you want to stay for dinner, sit down and behave. If not, the door’s right there.”
Landon and Yuri both quieted instantly, each finding a seat like chastised schoolboys.
Jessica headed to the kitchen to help Elijah, but before she left, she shot Zinnia a meaningful look—keep an eye on those two.
Zinnia, equally worried they’d start a brawl, remembered Zane’s tearful face and quickly piped up, “Maybe… you two could actually try talking things out?”
Deep down, she refused to believe Zane could be that cruel—to have Yuri’s father beaten to death and tossed into the sea, leaving not even a body behind. Could someone really hide that much darkness behind a mask?
Landon let out a soft, derisive laugh. “What’s there to talk about with someone whose intentions are so obviously rotten?”
But Yuri glanced at Zinnia, then said quietly, “I’ll do what Zinnia asks.”
