“How’s Yuri? Was he badly hurt?”

Landon’s brows drew together, just a hint of concern. “He’s fine. Just a few scrapes and bruises—nothing serious.”

Relief washed over Zinnia at the news. Yuri had only been there because she’d invited him. If anything had happened to him, she had no idea how she’d ever explain it to his mother, all the way back in Norway.

“Zinnia, don’t worry about anything right now. Just focus on getting better. Let me handle everything else.”

Landon’s voice was gentle but firm. “And about Dapper—I’ve taken him to stay at my place for now. Once you’re feeling better, I’ll bring him back to you.”

Zinnia didn’t have the energy to argue or be polite. She just nodded and murmured her thanks.

She’d only just woken up, and already exhaustion was pulling her back under. After a few more words, she drifted off into a deep sleep.

Only after Zinnia was sound asleep did Landon quietly slip out of the hospital room.

Charles was waiting outside and stepped forward as soon as Landon appeared. “Mr. Ford.”

“How’s Juniper?” Landon asked.

“Still under observation in the ICU. His condition is more serious than Elijah’s. The doctors… they’re not sure he’s going to wake up.”

A cold, dangerous light flickered in Landon’s eyes.

Infinity Structures Inc. had filed for bankruptcy reorganization just the day before. That same day, Juniper had come to Landon for help. When he left empty-handed, with nowhere else to turn, he simply vanished.

For the past two days, the police had been searching for Juniper. No one expected him to ambush the Quinn family’s car on their way to the airport at dawn, throwing himself in front of their vehicle with nothing left to lose.

Charles braced himself against Landon’s icy stare and continued, “Traffic cameras show Juniper waiting by that road all night—just waiting for Elijah’s car. The footage suggests he was aiming for Zinnia’s seat in the back. For some reason, the car swerved at the last moment and he hit Elijah’s side instead.”

Landon pinched the bridge of his nose, his gaze turning colder by the second.
