Six hours later, after falling and getting back up countless times, Noelle finally made her way to the edge of the pit using her hands and feet together.
However, her entire being was caked in dirt, and her fingers were badly injured.
The sky was completely dark. The pitch black forest seemed like the netherworld to her.
The chirping of insects and birds had vanished, leaving only the whispering wind and endless darkness.
Noelle panted heavily as she slowly but surely made her way upward.
Right then, Noelle heard shouts from men and women sounding not far away. "Noelle!"
"Noelle!"
Those were the voices of Flame Speed Racing's team members!
Noelle wanted to respond, but her energy was drained.
She exerted her last shred of strength and crawled out of the pit.
Then, she saw her team members yelling her name anxiously with flashlights in their hands.
To her utter surprise, the one leading them was Alexis.
Noelle did her best to raise one arm.
A beam of light fell on her, followed by a chorus of screams. Soon, someone shouted, "Found her!"
Noelle's vision gradually blurred as she saw her team members running toward her.
She did her best to open her eyes, but her exhausted body refused to let her be.
Then, she passed out.
…
In the infirmary, the doctor was dressing Noelle's wounds.
She was lying on the bed, unconscious. Her lips were pale, her hair was messy, and she was caked in dirt, looking battered.
Her limbs also bore many scrapes and abrasions.
Most importantly, both her hands were bandaged, a sight that was almost unbearable to look at.
Failing to find suitable tools, she was forced to use her hands to climb out of the deep pit.
Standing behind the doctor, Hunter had a good look at her injuries. His expression was as cold as ice, and he exuded a violent air.
The team members had never seen Hunter act this way.
Outside the infirmary, the team members of Flame Speed Racing began whispering among themselves.
"What a close call. If Coach Haberkorn hadn't realized Noelle was missing right away, we wouldn't have gone out to search for her.
"No one goes to the back of the mountain. If Noelle passed out there, she might get gobbled up by wolves at night."
Jenna shook her head. "Why would Noelle go to the back of the mountain? That undeveloped forest is extremely dangerous."
