Noelle was shown to the dimly lit interrogation room. A bottle of water sat on the table in front of her, and the two officers who escorted her walked out after she entered.
A few moments later, Maxine walked in, dressed in professional attire.
Rocking a blue uniform, her face was stern and unreadable. She looked surprisingly young—early 20s at most—and wore minimal makeup. Her demeanor was sharp and commanding.
She looked like she was born with a silver spoon in her mouth, the kind who always won at life.
Maxine looked at Noelle and opened her laptop. "Your name."
Noelle met Maxine's gaze calmly. "Noelle."
Maxine asked for her basic information and started taking notes. "It says here you just got divorced, and your child lives with your ex-husband. How did you end up getting into the training camp?"
Noelle could tell Maxine had some grudge against her for some reason.
But no matter how hard she tried to remember, she was certain she had never seen Maxine before, let alone done anything to offend Maxine. "Isn't this investigation about me and Hunter? I don't have to answer questions outside of that."
Even though Noelle was calm and collected, her quiet confidence was unmistakable. She stood her ground against Maxine's authority.
Maxine snickered. "Sounds like you pulled some strings to be part of the national team, Ms. Quinn. Our task force investigates unfair practices in the team.
"I have the authority to question you, and you have the obligation to cooperate. Don't worry about it. We're gathering evidence from multiple sources, and you won't be the only one we talk to."
Basically, it was a warning to Noelle not to even think about lying. They would be questioning everyone around her to get the full story.
Noelle shrugged. "Alright then."
With Maxine putting it that bluntly, what else could she even do?
She grinned before continuing, "You realize how impressive Hunter is, don't you? Besides being a national team coach, he's also the CEO of a gaming company. His potential is huge. I'm sure you don't want to ruin that for him."
