Too Good for You: The Ex-Wife You Lost novel Chapter 88

"Umm…"

Chadwick seemed hesitant. However, Hannah, who was beside him, sneered. "She's as good as dead!"

She turned to Chadwick. "Ms. Clarkson said if she refuses to sign, we keep her locked in here. Let's see how long she'll be able to hold out! She's already gone a day without food. It won't be for much longer." Her tone was icy. "Let's go! Let's see how long she can keep that attitude!"

Chadwick glanced at Noelle, who remained composed, and felt a pang of unease. He followed Hannah out of the room. Once the door closed behind him, he lowered his voice and said, "This isn't going to blow up on us, is it? She's on the national racing team. I heard she's the captain of her crew. Didn't she win the league a while ago?"

Hannah's patience was wearing thin. "What could happen with Ms. Clarkson around? She's part of the Clarkson family from Brindley. How could a mere captain of a race team compare?"

Chadwick fell silent.

That was when Maxine approached them. Her expression soured when she noticed their empty hands. "She refused to sign?"

Chadwick was about to explain when Hannah jumped in. "Noelle is stubborn, Ms. Clarkson. She refused to sign the papers, no matter what we said. Are we going to keep wasting time with her if she keeps this up?"

Maxine's eyes darkened. Her tone was edged with mockery. "So, she's a tough nut to crack." Her expression stayed cool. "Let her stew in there. We'll see who breaks first. Give her water, but no food. She'll eventually be starved into submission."

Chadwick felt uneasy. "But she's already gone a day without food. If something happens to her…"

"Do as Ms. Clarkson ordered." Hannah shot Chadwick an annoyed glare. "Ms. Clarkson will take care of it if anything happens. What are you so worried about?"

Hearing that, Chadwick backed off despite his worries.

Hannah laughed derisively as she shot a glare at Chadwick's back. Then, she turned to Maxine, grinning. "I heard you're from Brindley, Ms. Clarkson. My aunt married into a family there. I usually go visit her whenever I'm on break."

Maxine, however, didn't bother humoring her. Her status meant that she had far too many people trying to cozy up to her. What need was there for her to waste attention on ordinary folk?

She gave Hannah a cool glance. "Keep an eye on her. I'll hold you responsible if anything goes wrong."

With that, she turned to leave.

Hannah felt a stab of irritation after being met with a cold shoulder. She grumbled under her breath, "What's so great about her? She just got ahead by riding on family connections. There she goes acting like she's better than the rest of us…"

Meanwhile, Chadwick still couldn't shake his unease after leaving. Once the others turned in for the night, he sneaked back to the interrogation room.

Noelle sat there like an unmoving statue.

Her eyes opened when she noticed that someone had entered.

Chadwick looked out the door, then handed her a piece of bread.
