Chapter 312
I lapsed into silence as I thought over his offer. He allowed me to be alone with my thoughts, for which I was grateful. I was all for establishing some sort of boundaries with Alexander. That way, I could make sense of our complicated relationship. But a trial relationship sounded thorny. Could I navigate something like that?
“I don’t want to decide anything tonight,” I finally said. “We should take the weekend to think things over…”
I trailed off as I got a good look at Alexander’s hand. My eyes widened when I realized that it was red and swelling. I winced, remembering how Ethan had flung Alexander’s hand and how it had hit the window with a loud crack.
“Your hand!” I said, my voice full of anxiety. “Do you think it’s broken?”
Alexander grimaced and tried to flex his fingers, but he could only make it halfway. “No, it just needs some ice and rest.” He frowned. “Just like that ankle of yours.”
“My physical therapist is the best,” I said. “I’m sure he could take you tomorrow if I told him it was urgent.
Alexander leaned toward me, and my mouth dried as his manly scent surrounded me. “Why don’t we take care of each other tonight?”
I opened my mouth to tell him that I was going to my parents‘ house this weekend, but when his eyes shot down to his lips, my excuse died on my lips. Even though I knew I shouldn’t stay with him, I couldn’t resist.
He carried me up to my apartment, and once we were inside, I sent a quick text to my mom, apologizing for canceling. I just told her that I couldn’t drive with my injured ankle, which was technically true.
“I’m glad that we didn’t go to your apartment,” I said. “I didn’t want to disturb Mike.”
“I agree,” he replied and took a seat on my couch right next to me. His warm body pressed against mine, making me let out a quiet gasp. Alexander smirked. “So, have you had dinner?”
At that moment, my stomach growled. We shared a look and then burst out into laughter.

“I’ll take that as a yes,” he joked and gently squeezed my upper thigh. “What would to eat?”

“Shouldn’t I be the one cooking for you?” I countered and relaxed against his side. “You’re in my apartment, and your hand is hurt.”
Alexander gave my thigh one more squeeze, then got to his feet. “You can’t even stand without crutches. I’ll be the one to cook.”
I hesitated. “Um, can you cook? I’ve never even seen you in the kitchen.”
He rolled his eyes. “Very funny. Of course, I can cook.”
“You can’t be good at everything,” I teased.
He let out a loud laugh and leaned close to me. Our faces were only inches away, and I stopped breathing. He stared deeply into my eyes until my head spun. At this point, I might pass out from lack of oxygen.
“Haven’t I told you, Olivia?” he whispered, his breath smelled like mint. In the back of my mind, I wondered when he had time to chew gum.
“Tell m–me what?” I managed to say.
“That I’m good at everything.”
His arrogance broke the spell between us. I tore my eyes away from him and leaned back against the couch.
“You think very highly of yourself, don’t you?” I asked and crossed my arms.
Alexander shrugged, unabashed. “Yes, I do. But at least I have the skills to back it up.”
I wanted to tell him that he didn’t, but that would be a lie. Our night together floated into my mind–memories of his insistent mouth, warm hands, and his body hovering over mine…
I shook my head to clear it. I was suddenly in need of a cold shower.
Alexander smirked down at me as if he knew exactly where my mind had just been.
