I was momentarily distracted by the defined muscles on the back of his upper arms. Alexander was so strong, much stronger than Ethan. When we were first married, my ex- husband couldn’t even lift me into his arms to carry me through the door.
I shook my head, angry with myself. Why was I comparing these two men? It wasn’t fair to Alexander or to myself.
Alexander had no idea of the internal struggle I was having inside my head. He grinned and waved his hand in front of my face. “Hellooo, is anyone in there?” he joked. “Earth to Olivia.”
I blushed and averted my eyes, thankful that Alexander couldn’t read my mind.
“Would you like breakfast for dinner?” Alexander asked. I could tell by the way he was looking at me that this wasn’t the first time he was asking me this question. “I’m starving, and from the way your stomach keeps growling, I can tell that you are too. I was thinking about making a bunch of breakfast food for us. Maybe pancakes, eggs, bacon, sausage, sourdough toast, and orange juice.” He paused as he began to pace around my small living room. “It’s okay if you don’t have everything. I don’t mind going to the store to get some ingredients.”
I bit my lip as a crazy thought bolted into my mind as quickly as lighting.
Alexander misread my expression. “It’s okay if you don’t want breakfast,” he assured me. “I can make anything. Well, not anything, but I can always look up a tutorial on my phone on how to cook something. What are you in the mood for? Spaghetti? A turkey dinner? Sushi? Well, I can’t make sushi, but I’m sure I could buy it from the…” he trailed off when I put my hand up.
A wave of confidence flowed through me, and I wasn’t about to waste it. I gently patted the spot beside me. “Are you sure you want to leave my side? Why don’t we just sit for a minute?”
As soon as that suggestion flew out of my mouth, a warm flush spread across my cheeks. But I couldn’t bring myself to regret saying it. After such a tiring day, I didn’t have the strength to fight my desire for Alexander anymore.
His eyes sparked, and he sat beside me again, being careful not to jostle me. “What would you want to do if I stayed?” he whispered, his lips near my ear, his breath on the sensitive

skin of my check made me shiver.
His closeness made me second guess myself, and I averted my gaze to my carpet. “I was just kidding. I’m actually getting pretty hungry.”
He leaned in even closer so that his warm, hard body was pressed against my side. “Oh? So, you’ll trust my cooking now?”
I met his eyes. “Do I have any other choice?”
“We could order a pizza,” he suggested.
I smiled. “I think I’ll take my chance with your cooking.”
“That’s what I like to hear,” he said and grabbed a pillow from the other side of the couch.
He set it next to me and eased me down until my head was lying on top of the pillow. Then, he grabbed two more pillows from the chair across the room and helped me prop my ankle
“I’ll be right back,” he said and left the room before I could ask where he was going.
Two minutes later, he came back with an ice pack covered by a washcloth. He put it gently on my injured ankle. The relief was instant and spread throughout my body, making me melt into the couch.
“Thank you,” I said as my eyes fluttered close. I heard his footsteps retreating into the kitchen. “And Alexander, one more thing.”
The footsteps stopped, but I didn’t bother to open my eyes.
