Chapter 330

Stanley took the keys with him so Nora couldn’t drive away. It was a good thing that he had a newer car and could control the AC and lock the car through his phone. A stab of guilt went through his side like a knife since he was leaving his intellectually disabled daughter in the car alone just so he could follow a hunch. In the back of the mind, he knew that most of the reason he was doing this was just to see Olivia up close again before leaving New York.

In the large supermarket, Olivia grabbed a cart and began to push it across the shiny white tile.

“Honey, let me do that,” her father offered, looking worriedly down at the large boot on her foot.

Olivia smiled at the concern that she heard in her father’s voice.

“It’s okay. Dad,” she answered. “I actually like using it to lean on.”

“We should look at the home decor aisle first,” Polin said, steering her family in that direction. “I want to buy you something for your apartment.”

Olivia’s cheeks warmed. “You don’t have to do that, Mom.” Even though she kept protesting, she was secretly pleased that her parents were doting on her. She knew that this was their way of showing their love for her.

The three of them entered the home goods aisle, and as they looked at the small lamps, candles, and picture frames, Stanley walked up behind them. For some reason, his heart was slamming against his chest as he prepared himself to say hello.

“Hi, Olivia,” he said, tapping the younger woman on the shoulder. “How are you?”

Olivia turned around, and her eyes widened when she caught sight of Nora’s strange father. She couldn’t help thinking about her only other encounter with him when he had told her that she looked like his wife who passed away. Olivia tried not to be too judgemental with her thoughts because Stanley has had a tragic life, but she didn’t like the intense way that he was looking at her. What made it even worse was the fact that Stanley had the most bright blue eyes that she had

ever seen.

“Oh, hello, Stanley,” she said politely. “These are my parents, Polin and DeAngelo. They have come to the city for a weekend visit.”

DeAngelo shook Stanley’s hand. He squeezed the other man’s hand a little harder than necessary. He didn’t like the creepy way that this older man was looking at his daughter.

Olivia looked at her mother, who hadn’t said a word since Stanley’s abrupt appearance, which was very unlike het Olivia’s stomach swooped when she saw that her mother’s face had become very pale as she stared at Stanley with a horrified expression.
