Chapter 5
“You…”
Kaden probably never imagined I’d say something so cold.
All these years together, I’d suppressed my feelings, trying to be the perfect girlfriend.
He said I was gentle and understanding, that I knew him better than anyone.
I thought that was a compliment.
Didn’t realize my goodness had become something he took for granted.
I was like a glass of water-he couldn’t live without me, but found me boring.
“Pink hair, pretty nails, colorful tattoos all over her body.”
That’s what you like, right?”
Kaden’s body shook again, his face paper-white.
“How old is she? Twenty? Even graduated college?”
Kaden, you make me sick.”
Cora… I never meant for anything to happen with her. Please believe me.”
He tried to grab my hands, his fingers shaking.
“Three months ago, I got assigned to a new project. The supervisor who liked me transferred out.”
I was depressed, so I went drinking with Chase and them. We ended up at Velvet and met… Tessa Sterling.”
‘I never planned anything with her. I just got drunk and vented some stuff I had bottled up.”
You were so busy with work, you didn’t have time to listen to me complain. But I’m human too-I needed to let it out somewhere…”
laughed.
‘So this is all MY fault? Because I didn’t take care of your feelings, you went and found another woman to be your soulmate?”
He shook his head frantically.
No, that’s not what I meant. I know I messed up… I ruined everything, but I never wanted to break up with you!”
We’ve been together for TEN YEARS. You’re in my blood, you’re part of my soul.”
“I can’t live without you!”
His eyes were bloodshot, like he was about to break down.
Yeah, you can’t live without me. So you chose to LIE to me.”
I pulled out my phone and showed him the photo from last night.
Under those dim bar lights, Kaden and Tessa locked in a kiss.
“Ten years together. The night before our engagement, you ran to some bar to make out with another girl.”
Picture’s pretty clear, right? I’m not making this up this time, am I?”
