At that time, Nathaniel always deliberately ignored the question, attributing all his kindness to Elaine solely to guilt and compensation, as if this could prove that his heart still belonged entirely to Genevieve.

He always thought that Genevieve would understand.

The month he spent experiencing a couple’s life with Elaine, he treated as his last chance to indulge the secret desires buried deep within him. He thought that after the kidney transplant surgery, he would still belong only to Genevieve.

He just hadn’t expected that Genny’s health had deteriorated to such an extent.

The remorse in his heart nearly drowned Nathaniel, and the guilt he felt toward Genevieve almost crushed him.

Now, Genevieve was dead. He owed her far too much, so much that he could never make

amends.

Nathaniel truly regretted it. If only he had been more decisive back then, agreed to Genny’s request to give Elaine 850,000 dollars, and directly let Elaine donate her kidney–would everything have turned out differently?

Unfortunately, there are no ifs in life.

And it wasn’t just him who owed Genevieve–Elaine owed her too!

Nathaniel was silent for a long time, then suddenly shook off Elaine, the resolve in his dark eyes growing ever firmer.

His voice was calm and emotionless, yet it made Elaine feel as if she had fallen into an ice cellar, her whole body turning cold.

“No… you can’t do this to me…” She shook her head in disbelief, hugging Nathaniel tightly from behind.

“Nate, I know you have feelings for me too. You’re no longer the man who loved Genevieve with all your heart. What you felt for her was more about past promises and responsibility. Now that Genevieve is gone, we can be together. Let’s not dwell on the past anymore, okay?”

“No.” Nathaniel coldly pushed Elaine away, his icy gaze falling on her as if he were looking

at a corpse.

“Elaine, I truly regret ever having feelings for you!”

“No matter if it’s you or me, what we owe Genny must be repaid, one by one!”

As soon as he finished speaking, he closed his eyes and ordered someone to drag Elaine away and take the kidney that should have belonged to Genevieve.

After all, he knew exactly how much property she had left to compensate with.

The things he had given her in the past, the money for compensation–she had probably squandered it all long ago and couldn’t possibly pay it back.

Elaine was utterly desperate. She never imagined that the Nathaniel who had once been so gentle to her could now be so cold and indifferent.

“Nate, please, let me go, won’t you? I didn’t do anything wrong. Genny is already dead, she doesn’t need my kidney anymore. Please, just let me go this once, won’t you?”

Her hand gripping his pant leg had turned white from the force, but Nathaniel remained indifferent, even kicking her hand away without mercy.

“Let you go? Then what about my Genny? This was a promise you made yourself. You owe her a kidney, and you should give it back to her!”

With that, he cast a cold glance at the hesitant bodyguards.
