You Looked Down on Me Once, Now You Look Up. novel Chapter 401

Golden Bay was always raining.

The showers came and went like someone’s nervous tic, flaring up whenever you least expected, just to make life a little more miserable.

It was the kind of weather that really got under your skin.

Sean had fought his way up to become one of the city’s top four power players. Sure, he had talent, but his wife’s family had pulled plenty of strings behind the scenes too.

Of course, his story with the in-laws was way too complicated to explain in a few words.

“Sir, the Padilla family just arrived,” his assistant reported. “They brought a whole fleet—more than a dozen cars.”

Sean had barely finished his business in Riverdale before heading straight back to Golden Bay. In his mind, a girl without connections—even a smart one—could never stand a chance against the cold tactics of men with real power.

He never saw it coming.

She wasn’t alone after all.

He pulled into the driveway and stepped out just as the convoy came to a stop. The moment he spotted Miles, Sean put on a polite smile. “Oliver,” he called out.

Miles was dressed in a crisp suit, but you could still see the military in him—the kind of authority that didn’t fade with time. He glanced over his shoulder, and Oliver hauled someone out of the car, dumping him right at Sean’s feet.

“Sean, care to explain?” Oliver’s voice was icy. “Why would your guy lay hands on my wife?”

Sean’s brows knitted together in confusion. He looked at Oliver, searching his face for answers. “What exactly are you talking about?”

“Sean, you know me. I don’t play around, so let’s cut to the chase.” Oliver was seething, any calm he’d shown in Riverdale now gone. He was thinking about Patricia and her injuries, and he wasn’t in the mood for games.

He went straight for payback.
