“What’s the difference?” Narissa asked. After all, she was already at the top of the agent team and knew all about the recruitment process.

If she agreed to be a special recruit, she’d just end up as a regular agent.

But she didn’t want to be just a regular agent.

‘There’d be way too many restrictions, she thought.

The officer paused for a second, then let out a laugh. “Honestly, there’s not much difference.

“But if you take the assessment with them, you’ll have a shot at becoming a Military Intelligence Office agent.

“That’s the highest honor an agent can get–but making it that far is no walk in the park.”

“Oh? Is it really that hard?” Narissa raised an eyebrow, a hint of curiosity in her voice.

Skye came over and said, “Hard? You bet it is.

“You have no idea–the only agent team in the Military Intelligence Office is led by the legendary 001 from our agent group.

“And not only is 001 super mysterious, but nobody even knows who’s actually on that team, or how many people there are.

“I heard they just blend in with everyone else on base. For all we know, it could be anyone right next to us.

“If I could work for 001, I’d be willing to drop dead on the spot.”

The officer said, “Skye’s right–being on 001’s team is every agent’s dream. After hearing all that, doesn’t it make you want to work for 001 too?”

Narissa didn’t say anything.

She didn’t need to become one of 001’s subordinates–because she was 001.

But what they said was true. Getting onto her team was no easy feat.

Her team was made up of people she’d personally led out of the harshest battlefields.

When it came to experience and strength, they were on a whole different level compared to kids like Skye, who’d only gone through standard training.

Skye said with anticipation, “Narissa, are you totally shocked by all this? Honestly, when I first heard about it, I was just like you–full of excitement and longing.”

But to her surprise, Narissa’s reaction was unexpectedly calm.

“Honestly, they’re just regular people. They’re not nearly as mysterious or powerful as you all imagine,” Narissa replied.

After all, as someone from the Military Intelligence Office, she’d seen countless agents fall over the years. Only a handful of them were left.

‘If we were really as legendary and invincible as the rumors say, would things have ended up like this?‘ she thought.

“You don’t admire them?” Skye stared at Narissa in shock, totally stunned by her answer.

She couldn’t believe there was actually someone out there who didn’t idolize the agents of the Military Intelligence Office.

“It’s not that I don’t idolize them,” Narissa replied calmly, “I just don’t think they’re as high and mighty as everyone says.

“You guys only see the glory on the surface, but you have no idea what they’ve had to sacrifice to get there.

“Honestly, instead of trying so hard to join them, maybe it’s better to just be a regular agent.”

‘At least that way, you might actually live to see another day,‘ she thought.

But the truth was, hardly anyone could really understand how Narissa felt.

After hearing her words, the others got all riled up, like they just had to prove her wrong.

One of them declared, “But we’re not like you! If we’re going to be agents, we want to be the very best.

“Like the old saying goes–a soldier who doesn’t dream of being a general isn’t a real soldier.”

Another chimed in, “Yeah. Just imagine how cool and glorious it would be to serve under 001.

“We’re the children of Rothialand. Since we’ve chosen this path, isn’t it all about being ready to lay down our lives at any moment?

“If we’re going to die, then let’s make it the most glorious death possible!”

The others felt like she just didn’t understand their ambitions, and they all got a bit riled up, unable to hold back their

emotions.

Looking at these people, Narissa’s mind drifted back to her old teammates.

Back then, the country wasn’t nearly as strong as it is now. They were the very first batch of recruits thrown into the special agent training program.
