Balance of Light and Shadow (By Chandrea) novel Chapter 195

Chapter 195

Lewana POV

I stay in the prison for most of the day, trying to get the rogues to talk. I review my medical files on them, and they have shown significant improvement since being incarcerated here, which makes me question where they were before. It’s now understandable why they were in such a bad state when we captured them. We also know why they didn’t tell us anything. They couldn’t.

Conrad stays close by while I work. Partly to keep an eye on me and keep me safe, but mainly to see what information we can gather from them.

I talk to them as softly as I can while keeping the questions open. What is your name?.

Only one is talking currently. A man, who I’m.guessing is in his 40s. The other three seem to be in

their 20s.

He addressed me eagerly each time he spoke as if trying to please me. He talks nonchalantly while eating. Omegas don’t have names. We don’t need them. We do as our Master commands.

This confuses me, as he must have a name. Tell me about where you came from. Where you lived.

Here is much nicer, Master. There we sleep under fabric together. Very cold at night.

I smile. Maybe I wasn’t clear. You’re older than your last Master. You must have been somewhere

before you were in his pack.

He just looks confused. There is no time before Old Master. No life. Life has always been with Old

Master.

That Fucker. He Alpha ordered them to forget. That way, even if they did think of escaping, they had

nowhere to go. They had no members beyond him.

I had to refocus on intel gathering. How many are there in your pack?.

*4000,

Mine and Conrad’s stomach drops. That’s a lot under Malik Alpha’s control. That’s a lot of wolves who have no idea what they are doing.

I keep asking questions. Anything I can think of for intel. Are there pups there?.

Lots of pups. Breeding is mandatory. Big pack is better pack.

This just keeps getting worse. How do we go to war with that many pups at risk? Knowing Malik, he will just hide behind them, knowing we wouldn’t kill a pup. He could even get them to attack us, knowing we would struggle to kill them even if it meant protecting ourselves.

I ask the final question for now. The only one we need to know.

Where is your pack?.

He looks around and points in what seems to be a random direction. That way. He pauses and thinks. Are you going to send me back, Master?.

I answer this immediately. No. If you help us, you can stay here. We are trying to work out a plan. I pause and think about the next part as I’m unsure of how he is going to react. We want to free everyone from Malik, your old Master like we freed you.

He replies matteroffactly as if commenting on simple matters. He needs to die. He is not a good master. The shadows make him worse, but he has always been bad.

I freeze as if a bucket of ice water has been dropped on me. My voice barely comes out as a whisper. What?.

The Shadows. We can sense them in our pack. They were here a while ago, but they are gone now. We can sense when one of them possesses old master. They merge with his wolf to give him dark energy and more power. It helps him command everyone. He and his wolf accept the power. That Alpha fought it though. Very strange. He nods towards Conrad, whose face dropped.

Conrad looks at the man. You could tell they had possessed me.

He instantly retreats and bows his head in silence. I try to reassure him to keep him talking.

He is my mate. We are a team. He is Alpha King, and I am Luna Queen. Not Master. The packs follow both of us freely. You don’t need to be afraid of him.

He looks at me and smiles. We know who you are, Master. The Old Master has photos of you and told us you were coming. He told us he was selfishly keeping you from us and that you belonged to Old Master. That you would come and make us stronger. We made a room for you. Not a nice room like his. We made it off stone and put chains on the walls.

Conrad is by my side in an instant. He can feel me falling apart on the inside, but I am keeping my

I get up to leave, but address him again. Thank you for this information. It was very helpful. Is there anything you need or want?.

He continues talking as if what he is saying is just obvious facts. We have no right to request things of Masters. Only take what is given.

Well, there is one more thing you can do for me. Call me Luna Queen, not master.

I paused and seemed conflicted. Is that an order? I didn’t feel the order. Should it be one?.

I take a deep breath. If you choose to call me Master, I won’t stop you. But I would prefer you call

me Luna Queen.

He started to get distressed. We have no right to choose. We do as commanded.

Not any more. Here, everyone has a choice in most matters, so you can decide if you want to call me Master, but I would prefer you call me Luna Queen.

He retreated back into the corner of his cell, mumbling to himself as if I had just asked him to work

out the meaning of life.

I walk back hand in hand with Conrad to the pack house, and he guides me to the private living room. He pulls me into a tight hug and holds me close, and I start to gently cry on his shoulder.

I’m not even that sad. It’s more the emotional energy drained and the empathy for his situation that has my heart breaking. It’s not long, though, before I’m over taken by anger.

I needed to kill Malik and fast.
